"ax" should be spelled with an "e".
"axe"

A proper response, that kept the spirit of the targeted post, would require a lengthy treatise, going back to Old English and metathesis. However, the short response is "ax" is an alternative spelling of "axe."

You are correct, but among the folks who substitute "ax" for "ask", life is short, so they have to abbreviate their responses.

My local post office had a sign apologizing for the inconvenience of their being closed on Monday. Wonder of wonders, they spelled "inconvenience" correctly!

But they were apologizing for being closed on "Independance Day".

Hahahaha, Retriever, I came here to post that very thread title!

Does anyone proofread anymore? WTH!!

The rest of that post is relatively readable.

Honestly, I understand autocorrect and all that, but damn! Doesn't anyone look before they hit enter or return or whatever??

I also understand the problems that can result from Autocorrect, but "riped" isn't actually a word.
Does Autocorrect substitute non-words for genuine words?
If so, then we are in for a huge volume of such nonsense in the future.

This is true. I think the future is here, and autocorrect has little to do with it.

Default Making mole hills out of mountains?

Our local 'paper on United Way's Day of Caring:

"The organization serves communities in Tularosa, up threw High Rolls, Cloudcroft and May hill ... "
Granted that High Rolls is uphill, but I'd say it's more nestled than thrown. & May Hill is the full name, it's not just a hill with a name.

"Last year we had an increase in community volunteers and this year were working to increase the community volunteers ..."
Instead of were, I think the writer meant we're. Curse you, autocorrect!
