By the way, below where it says only 55% of people can read it, it's hard to believe for some-one like me, because I don't any-one who can't read it.... personally I think it is there to make you feel better about yourself, because any-one should be able to read it.
In a way its good, in a way its terrible. Good that on Sunday, there is no traffic and its quiet...Terrible that you loose some flexibility like I can't just go out and buy XYZ on everyday.
It's gentian violet, which is bright purple and kills yeast. It also stains anything it touches. I visualize pups with purple ears.

When I was fairly young, our MD diagnosed a fungal infection in my ears, and he directed our pharmacist to compound a mixture of Gentian Violet and Petrolatum. My mother had to "paint" my ear canals with this viscous purple stuff for several months. As you can probably imagine, every kid with whom I came into contact said something to the effect of...Ewww...your ears are purple.
I assume that there may not have been any other anti-fungals in the early '50s which were safe for instilling in the ear canals. Or, at least I hope that there was nothing else available, because our doctor wound-up subjecting me to a lot of ridicule at the age of 10 or so.

Before the advent of kinder antifungals, doctors used it to treat yeast infections on private lady parts, too.
Nystatin is produced by a bacterial strain and was discovered by two women chemists in 1950.

That usage may have also resulted in some negative comments, but--more than likely--those comments were far less numerous than what I was subjected to with something as visible as my ears.
