The term British may be misleading, as there's no such ethnic group. The ethnic groups are English, Scottish, Welsh, Cornish and so on. The residents of Northern Ireland are most usually of English, Scottish or Irish descent, or all of them.

And the official name of that nation is since 1801 The United Kingdom, and Northern Ireland has been an integral part of the Kingdom since then. Before 1801 Ireland as a whole was a separate realm under the English crown. That's the reason why NI is named separately on the passport.

But the nationality is British, if you have a UK passport. If you have a British identity, then you are British. Therefore owenc is British, living in Northern Ireland. I'm not sure, but I don't think there's a specific Northern Irish ethnic group.
Cornwall isn't an 'ethnic group' (neither are the others actually, they are seperate countries) Cornwall & Cornish people (from Cornwall) are English. They like to think they are seperate & different but they are not

Passports state 'The United Kingdon of Great Britain & Northern Ireland' as many in N.I don't like to be classed as 'British', hence why Londonderry, is also refered as Derry. It is a very touchy subject as some claim to be British, some claim to be Irish & others Northern Irish...

The UK/GB has very complicated rules (over complicated) as to what is UK/British/GB/British Isles...
The Channel Islands for instance are not part of the UK, but are part of GB, it's confusing enough for people that live over here, let alone to foreigners!

Got it! You learn something new every day. I knew that the Channel Islands are not part of the British Isles, though.

Yes the Channel Islands are part of the British Isles & techincally not part of GB, but they are included in with GB for certain things, very confusing! The license plates on cars from the Channel Islands for instance have GB on them, then a registration no. starting with G for Guernsey & J for Jersey... The Channel Islands are also included in team GB for Olympics etc... My head hurts lol
