Got up to 73F today. Before today it had not been past 70F this month. January thru yesterday was 4.4F below normal, but the remainder of the month is looking warmer with temps mostly 60F+ and a couple of days in the 70's.
Atlanta's avg maximum temp for January is right at 70 but I'll doubt we'll hit that this year. We maxed out at 68 in Dec and 66 so far this Jan. Might hit 65 Monday and that's it. Glad I went to Florida.
Speaking of, beautiful day in Tampa/St Pete. Went to the beach and didn't realize it was gonna be quite a bit chillier than inland. Water temp in the low 60s so that NW wind off the gulf was cold.
Forecast for the upcoming week looks quite acceptable given our crappy mild coastal standards. No 50s, two 40s, but mostly mid 30s with some snow potential. Can't really complain.
When are we going to get some serious cold around here?
Near Nashville, TN. Haven't been below 17 F / -8 C all winter, but haven't been below 16 F / -9 C since January 18, 2018 (that day hit 9 F / -13 C).
This is a record for longest spread between temperatures below -10 C / 14 F (surpassing the record of Feb. 16, 1920 to Feb. 18, 1923).
Also, this isn't a "winter" thing, but we need a 100 F / 38 C day. July 8, 2012 was the last time we hit 100. The last gap this large was July 11, 1969 to July 12, 1980.
I don't like this milquetoast stuff. I need some serious cold soon, and I'm not seeing it in the forecast. Hopefully February won't be a Failbruary like the last four have.
Oh my gosh, the RAIN. It has rained for days and WILL rain for days more here in NE Texas. I mean, I should be used to this - it rains much of January every year but goodness. Gray and chilly and wet - I want me some spring.

It seems like a confluence of factors why we can't get winter anymore, the month that seems to be ridiculously warm these days is December. I think it has a lot to do with the changing jet stream due to lower sea ice level extent in the arctic, not allowing for colder air masses to build until the second half of the winter in the US if they do in fact materialize.

A warm day ahead today. Lots of sunshine and highs in the mid-40s. Back to highs just in the upper 20s tomorrow and then returning to seasonal mid-30s for the weekend. Should see some precipitation Sunday through Monday night, but what type is anyone's guess. Right now daytime highs are forecast well above freezing, so a cold rain. But lows Sunday night could drop below freezing. So maybe daytime rain and nighttime snow. Who knows. But Monday morning could be a mess.
