Sun in winter is overrated in my opinion UNLESS it is both sunny and warm. Dec 24 here came close to that and felt nice. Otherwise, the sun does nothing and can actually make it colder because cloud cover keeps thing mild in winter.
The good thing about here in Austin is when it's sunny it's usually warm because of solar radiation at this latitude. It's 68 degrees under sunny skies in Austin right now. Tonight will dip into the lower 40's.
In a couple of days it will be in the 40's and rainy. I much prefer the sun...

I'd consider the situation fairly. If we look at sunshine, temps should be the same. Sunny and cool is good for running and doesn't get depressing over time unlike cloudy weather.
Probably unlike you, I find some reasonable cloudy weather in summer to be acceptable, if and only if the temps are warm (which is often not the case with cloudy summer days in Seattle). July 4 2018 was a pretty nice day to me.
Maybe Seattle's summers are too monotonously sunny to make me feel the effects of cloudy summer days, but I'll just go with my own thoughts for now.
Austin's weather is stable in the summer but this time of year it varies day to day. Yesterday warm, humid and extremely violent thunderstorms with a tornado watch and hail. Today bone dry and sunny. In two days cold and rainy. Going from 66 dewpoints to 20 degree dewpoints in a few days, basically from tropical to polar air in a week is highly variable. Going from warm rain to warm sun to cold rain in a few days is quite extreme.
No one has my kind of humidity and dew points in the summer and lows i have when i am in a reverse west windflow. Ya i know some of ya get it bad, but not as long as i get it. This has been a odd year for my area.
Jan was the coldest month we had since 2010. Then we went right to summer in Feb with the hottest Feb ever on record, i mean mid 80's to near 90's. Jan was above normal on rain while Feb and March were very dry. Then we had a wet Apr and May, and a bone dry summer for my area on the coast while inland 50 miles had 72"+ of rainfall this year. Aug was the only summer month that was above normal on rain.
Sept to Dec only saw around 5" and Oct and Nov were blazing hot. Then to top it off, Sept was the hottest Sept ever and the hottest month ever. Then the first 3 weeks of Dec was my dream pattern with 10" of rain and colder and cloudy weather.
Wow. What a line for morning hours. Tornado warnings in red boxes. Torential rains under the reds. Strong wind gusts as it pushes through
Dewpoints in the 60s ahead of that line.

I had some torrential rainfall as line came thru this morning, but I was never under a severe or tornado warning. Measured 2.80" since yesterday and just had another shower since measuring.
Storms stalled right now over SE Louisiana and Mississippi with flash flood warnings.

Looks like mostly cooler temps coming after tomorrow and additional rainfall this weekend through New Year's Eve.
Latest runs of both the GFS and CMC showing wintry precip on Jan 2 for the northern half of LA! Wunderground had been showing a 30% chance of rain/snow here next Wed night!
I hope it does flip back. I want my dream pattern back i had this month and get 10" of rain for Jan. But for at least 7 more days we are blocked from any heavy rain.
