Glad we're not setting any cold records....the growing season out east will really be affected by this record cold.
My soil temp range has DROPPED since end of March. Hovering between 38°-43°F past 7 days.
I don't even have my cool season crops in yet. It's been tough past few yrs I have to admit. With either the late snows, arctic blasts, or cool rainy Mays. My neighbors have been using their pool LESS past few summers actually because it doesn't warm up like it used to.

Thankfully, no putrid 70s yet though
GFS had 70s. Euro said No. Now GFS backing off but it shouldn't last. Jet stream keeps digging down so the warmth will get knocked down with the fronts next 2 weeks
Some snow expected today however seems like the worst is finally passing and thank God. Still will be below average as of this forecast, only two days in the 50s, boy they will feel great! Hoping for a rapid warm up second half of April so we can get some foliage.
Current Radar and metars. Even Springfield Missouri reporting light snow now. Doubt its sticking there though.
Is Pittsburgh getting snow AGAIN? Crazy. Looks too light to accumulate a lot though. Actually it's mixing at the airport but the suburbs probably getting all snow.
With full bright sun and its only 40° at lunchtime. LOL All normal.....for December.
Reason why its so cold today is the air mass above the Northeast at 5000' is super cold (-10C!) 14°F! Very hard for surface to warm up with temps up there in the teens! If it wasn't for the April sun we wouldn't even be touching 40°.
Snow squalls around during the day. Looks like the sun may disappear here this afternoon
Here are the 850mb temps to see it better why this pattern is happening. Upper Level trough digging down and the airmass is just cold at the mid levels which filtered all the way down south.
Looks like the Georgia mountains are near freezing during the day today. Too dry for moisture to be around.
22 °C (~72 f), cca 55% humidity, just a slight breeze (5-8 km/h or 3-5 miles/h) to make it feel good even in the sun and not a single cloud in the sky.
You could wear shorts and it felt good, but you could wear pants and it felt good, too. You could wear t shirt, it was good, but even a light jacket wasn't too much.
Just perfect.
