Midwest stays near or above average while the east cools next week

Dear Mother Nature, can you shift this heat mass 1,000 miles East please?

Thanks,
A NY resident.

1991

While April wasn't even a Top 40 cold for NYC (odd cause I thought everyone else was a Top 10); May is 6th warmest so the gap is wide. 17.4° gap.

1887 and 1944 is the largest gap.

Although... You can have 2 warm months or 2 cold months and have a large gap..

May 2015 was 2nd warmest in NYC but April was 25th warmest and the gap is wide.

1874 was the coldest April on record and 8th coldest May yet the gap is large.

Spring is usually the time of the highest gaps. I'll try to get a chart together soon.

The largest was Feb (25.5°) - March (46.9°) 1979. Gap of 21.4 degrees
Minneapolis has a 30°F gap which will probably increase between April and May...

April: 37.6°F
May: 67.6°F*

*As of 5/30.

Don't believe me?

Spoiler

Not as extreme here but still....

Chi/MDW as of the 30th 76.9F (90 degrees expected today)
April: 50.8F

really gloomy stretch coming up. Posting a Long Island forecast

not much better in western Massachusetts. Another late spring stuck cloud; we had a shorter one in mid May and plenty previous years

Forecast max of 90F in Quebec City today. May record stands at 91F.

Meanwhile only 70 in NYC. I am happy to be right where I am.
