neat visualization. we got an inch of snow, looked pretty and very quiet walking around town tonight. Cold and cloudy in the mid 20s. Cold air stuck in place, warm air streaming above. Neat visualization
1/2 to 23/4 inch of rain tomorrow hopefully liquid. warm enough aloft Mt. Washington will be around 30°F and get some rain. Yuck. Currently 11°F at the summit so a big midlevel warm up will happen there
I went mall-hopping in Atlanta today. It was cloudy and drizzly all day, with temperatures steady in the mid-50s. Tomorrow could be a second 70-degree day this month in advance of the big cold front, but we'll see. I guess it might depend on cloud cover.
Anyway, time to bring on the cold Christmas weather!
Raining and 33° here. Gees! Sometimes its so nice to be close to the coast. I see ice being reported not far north of me and roads being a sheet of ice..
I-495 was shut down in Massachusetts yesterday evening. I bet more roads are this morning in CT/MA
Warm front coming in but I wonder how long the cold will take to scour out in some spots. Might get stuck for a little.
3-7am loop
Even areas of Rhode Island getting a little ice storm
Surprised how far north the freezing line is with the surface being at or below as far south as CT.
In other words its in the mid 40s at 5000' but 32° near here. #Inversion
Current 850mb temps and metars. Montreal right on the edge of the freezing line at 5000' and they are still reporting snow. Surface is in the teens still.
Didn't stop snowing here til sometime overnight....there is so much snow for this time of year!!!!! We've been downgraded to a winter weather advisory through today for some freezing rain but I guess not as much as they had predicted earlier. I'll try and get some photos later.
The main road through Stowe was shut down yesterday afternoon for a bit:
As of 3 p.m., Vermont State Police had responded to more than 120 calls. The roads were so bad, one of Vermont's famous ski towns had to surrender to the snow. Stowe shut down Route 108-- the Mountain Road-- from the village all the way to the ski area. Police said conditions were so bad, it was impassable. So they closed it for an hour until VTrans was able to clear the way.
Current surface temps and upper heights.. There's only one thing on this map that is getting me excited. Goodbye SouthEast Ridge..Hello Polar Vortex! I don't have to label it, see the big "circle" and the temps underneath it?
That position is forcing the entire Jet south and will give us chances at big East coast storms! Oh yeah, and coldest airmass of the season too.
Funny to see the ridge over Alaska yet some areas in the teens and 20s still even below 0F. lol Probably above normal there?
Lastly... the temps at 5000' which will give you an idea of the air masses around..
-20C or colder under the whites and pinks and all pushing southward.
I'm surprised there's no ridge over the Rockies and West coast. It's like one big longwaved trough across the U.S
That Vortex is coming as far south as Ontario in 3 days.
It ended up reaching 80F yesterday, setting a new daily record...
Cold front came thru overnight; it's down to 44F now. Today's high will end up being 73F, the temp at midnight.
I got 0.52" of rain. Annoying how storms keep coming thru while I'm sleeping and I don't get to watch - this was the third time straight, lol.
