Yeah, typically Ocean effect comes with the Arctic air which means a "NW" flow which means other than Eastern MA & Long Island getting it, it "typically" doesn't reach us. But with a Cyclone we have tomorrow off the coast you have that East flow off the water. So can we officially call it Ocean effect snow? It is from the ocean.

It's going to be on off snow next couple days! Sometimes moderate at times.

Current look at the Radar and 850mb temps with metars.

Couple locations reporting a changeover to snow in North Carolina but notice where the freezing line aloft is.

It's still at or above freezing West of that line so either the rain/snow falling from the sky is cooling the column in those spots or the freezing line is pushing east so air is getting colder.

Radar Loop next 48hrs... Do you guys know what would of happened if the Clipper was 12 hrs faster or the Coastal Storm 12 hrs slower? Would of been another crazy blizzard with feet of snow in the Northeast

You can see they stay separate

Hey Philly, NYC, Long Island & soon CT, look up, those clouds are the northern fringe from the strong coastal storm off Carolinas right now. 998mb! Strengthening fast!

Here it comes! Keep an eye on that precip shield! Further West on land it is, the more snow we will get

I've become numb to this again, just like last year. No snow at all until late January, and now it just doesn't know when to stop.

Whoa.. Let me grab the Alert map.

Yeah, pretty crazy yet fascinating to be going through this again. Almost like DeJaVu we started getting snow mid January but the first real one was Jan 23rd, last year was Jan 24th.

This should continue through Mid February and will get colder too. Towards end of month we may get a break.

Not often you get a strong 998mb Clipper and a Strong 992mb Coastal Storm on the same map!

What a crazy active pattern we been in!

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/sfctest/new/...r=19&parm=pmsl

Close-up of Temps and Radar. Flooding in SW NC. Sleet falling in South Carolina. Shouldn't last long judging by the 50s to the West of there. Very heavy rain bands coming on shore.

Rain and in the 30s all day in North Carolina but Raleigh has been too far to get any
