I find that the US in general has a much more right wing approach to politics than most of Europe. What is considered 'liberal' over there is pretty much the norm over here.

No. Trump is polling around 30% of the Republican electorate. Assuming the Republican Party gets 45-50% of the vote, that's about 14-16%. His poll numbers at the moment are 35%, even then, at most 18%. A favorability rating would place Trump higher at 34%, but that's not quite the same as % who'd vote for him:
