So the Northeast might get down to -10F in spots this weekend.... How about the Upper Midwest?

Ideally a combo of both would be awesome. That blizzard was awesome in NYC but it was followed by above-average temperatures. That's disappointing.

Well if you want to talk about absolute lows for the NE, I see forecasts of -25 in the Adirondacks, and sub -30F on Mount Washington.

Personally I prefer extreme temperature events over extreme snowfall events, but only by a very slight margin. Both of them are important ingredients to a good winter (e.g, 2015), like alex mentioned.

Yeah, the combination is good. I was just thinking about the forecast for here, and how this must be one of the rare occasions those temperatures occur without (much) snow on the ground. I only have a few measly snow patches on the ground, such as shaded parts of my backyard. Pathetic, really.

The coldest day forecast for here has a high of 29 and a low of 14. That's ~7 degrees warmer than the coldest weather last winter, so I'm unimpressed. I'm not gonna get any significant snow the next 10 days, either, which is disappointing.

I will say, Boston's forecast is amusing. Extreme cold followed by rain.

Same theme here. I'd rather even out the cold and have snow instead at moderately freezing temperatures.

Would you rather experience the max in the teens with sun or the lows below 0 at night & sunrise?
You might not have to travel far. Just head higher in elevation in NC or VA

Here is NAM temps Sunday morning

NWS max temp forecast for Sunday

Mid 60s today. A 35 degree increase from morning to afternoon. A good 20 degrees warmer than yesterday afternoon. Looks like some of that warm air that invaded RAlex's place today moved eastward and made it out here. Forecast for the weekend has gone up again. 53 F high on Saturday, 51 F high on Sunday.

True, but not as high as one would think.

Lake Placid and Saranac Lake are only at 1600 feet and they have forecast lows of -24F. Watertown is at 300 ft, and it has a forecast low of -20F despite being near shore of Lake Ontario.

And, I'm betting on seeing a -30F in at least one of those locations this weekend despite the conservative forecasts, as it happened in both 2015 and 2014. http://www.wunderground.com/history/...lyHistory.html
