So we're getting a negative AO which means cold air leaks from the polar latitudes down below. But it doesn't mean it must reach us rather than somewhere else, right? What's the NAO doing again?
El Niño is still around, amplifying the jet stream. How will it combine with the negative AO?
I keep seeing the forcast temps near me ticking up not down. Nothing major but a degree or two here and there. I'm using Wunderground btw. Nothing else to add just commenting lol

I don't think I've seen a rubber band look like that. Whoa! Yeah, if that thing splits off and one comes down to Ontario or Quebec, I'm afraid to say people will be screaming climate change and thinking of moving south again.
One thing I can guarantee... whenever you are near the Vortex, its downright frigid. Extreme in the Lower 48 case.
And that thing doesn't move around like a surface storm does either.
I've noticed our forecast has moderated a bit as well, I only see two nights below freezing for the next 10 days, highs generally in the 40's, but the sun finally makes a return.
Is Central Park/NYC still yet to get below freezing? According to weather.com's official observations, the coldest they've been this month is 36 on the night of December 19th
