The deck is just now started to get coated too - sleet sticks better than snow for sure.
Near downtown Atlanta we've been switching back and forth between sleet and rain. I saw some VERY wet snowflakes mixing in for a few minutes, but that quickly changed back to the rain/sleet mix. Now we are just getting some moderate rain. It's a very wet mess out there. Looks like they pushed the Winter Storm Warning north of a line from Buchanan to Roswell to Jefferson, so that is now well north of the City of Atlanta. Last year really panicked the leadership in this area - we've had a snow day just to watch the ground stay wet!

I'm seeing some 2-4" snowfall reports coming from Alabama & Mississippi. Here's a few. Numerous Accidents and Powerline worries with the weight.

I have about 1.5" in Olive Branch, MS right now. Not much across the state line.

unfortunetly it will stay like that the rest of the evening and night until it all cools below freezing tomorrow morning but by that time the precip is gone.

A look at the current radar, metars and 850mb temps in the south.

2-3 inches has accumulated in Northern Alabama.

You can see below the freezing line it's rain. If it's not below freezing at 4000+ feet forget snow
The sucks Why won't it cool off after sunset?

The bummer we're getting at the moment is, well, nothing. Looks like a little precip donut hole has formed overhead at the moment. And the reports of all rain in downtown - jeeze.

Know that wonderful feeling you get when you hook a really big fish on the line - only to be crushed when it's able to get away before you can get it into the boat? That's how I'm starting to feel now.

This is why I need to move north - wayyyyy north...LOL.

Felt springlike today in the sun. Still wintry temps (no more than 15°C/59°F), but the sun angle makes all the difference.

Here's Warsaw for that month. No incredibly cold days (though a -16°C high certainly qualifies as cold), but consistently below normal temperatures:
Climate Warszawa-Okecie (February 1986) - Climate data (123750)

The following January was intense, with 11 consecutive days not climbing above 10°F, a couple highs below -20°C and a two nights reaching the -30°C mark:

Great question. The sun will warm and cool the surface but doesn't truly effect the levels above. Especially when there are clouds blocking the sun from 10,000 feet.

Temps are controlled more by the flow of the atmosphere it's just unfortunate how it set up for you. A push south just 20 miles and you would of had a nice snow event. You still may get lucky!

I see lightning and thunderstorms on 1 side and heavy snow on the other.

reports of 5-7" & still snowing hard MS & AL.. Looks like they have a nice snowpack too now.

Just rain here at the moment, and a light one at that.

Guess it's time to bring in spring and some rock-n-roll t-storms. Maybe we'll get a derecho or 2 to make up for this massive fail whale...lol.
