It was a nice show, basically a highlight clip show except for the Top 10 list, best part of the show.

I was surprised that he didn't mention Merrill Markoe, or even show her in a clip, considering that she conceived the NBC show with Dave & was the first head writer who came up with Stupid Pet Tricks, Stupid Human Tricks, Viewer Mail & several other bits that remained with both shows. Maybe it is still too painful for them or his wife wouldn't appreciate it? But I think she should have been acknowledged (unless I missed it)

Hi Grand-Pooba,
Love that guy!
He got teary in Jane Pauly's interview, I think...or was
super real as I recall.
I just can not read all the negative stuff about such a lighthearted,
wild and crazy guy
.

If someone didn't care for him..ok...why say bad stuff, tho?
Scroll past this topic, then.

I believe Dave looked at his wife and son and said they were the only thing
that mattered.

I dozed off, geeze...but watched aftershow comments and highlights at least!
Bye, Dave. Maybe someday I will find out what SMH means...figure it is
something like KMA.

I watched Letterman the last week or so, but hadn't watched him in years. Enjoyed him back when, but lost interest. It was a great last show, but I was reminded the last couple weeks why I hadn't been watching. Still, enjoyed seeing him again, and kudos to him on a truly great career. My favorite moment of all time, and I was watching live then, was when he did the velcro bit. Laughed myself stupid!

Personally, I'm really looking forward to Colbert. Can't wait! He's wicked smart, funny, talented, and did I mention smart?

Letterman is cool but the entire concept of late night talk shows is dead. I don't know anyone in my age range who watches them. They might go on YouTube the next morning and see a 5 minute sketch that's trending but sit down and watch an entire show? No way

I think I am the only person that has never watched him. I found him ugly to look at. But it was probably the time slot it was on, I have to be up really early in the morning due to work, so watching a slap stick talk show at 11:30 somehow didn't cut it.

He was well loved, but I just never got a chance to watch it.

I agree. Letterman was a bitter old man. I have not watched that show since the late 1980's. If you have a job, you have no business being up that late anyway.

Leno made me laugh, but I believe that was as much the good writing as it was Leno himself. If Letterman had better writers, and could come up with topical jokes that were more funny than they were politically left leaning to make a point, I probably would have been watching him all these years. I DVR'd the last three shows, and watched them. Except for Tom Hanks, MEH.

Maybe 10% of the top ten lists were funny at best, before I stopped watching. Some of the Pet Tricks were good, but not necessarily funny. Most were just what they called them. Stupid!
