It depends. If the nice areas of Bangkok were unaffordable for the average family, like Oakland, then yes, I'd write it off completely as a place to live for a family.

Who are you kidding? The middle class family cannot afford to buy a house in Costa Mesa without making serious sacrifices in other aspects of their spending.

Median Home Price, Costa Mesa: $529,900
Median Household Income, LA-OC Metro: $60,000

Even with good credit, their monthly payment is going to be around $2500 x 12=$30,000 a year. The average household in the LA-OC Metro Area would have to fork over HALF their annual GROSS income for their home payment.

That's not affordable-that's irresponsible. No, affordable for the the LA-OC Area would be to move to the Inland Empire.

In other words, like everywhere else, SAFETY AND DECENT SCHOOLS ALONG THE CALIFORNIA COAST COST MONEY and Oakland is NO EXCEPTION.

Anything else?

Your sudden concern for the "average family" is about as shallow as your knowledge of Oakland.

LOL...please spare us any further concern-its stinking up the place.

Again you prove that you lack knowledge in the local real estate market of OC.

3123 DUBLIN St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 | MLS# S620377

A completely affordable home for the average family. This same price range in Oakland would put you into shooting range of gang bangers and drug dealers.

Costa Mesa > Oakland in terms of affordability and safety.

Costa Mesa > Oakland in terms of affordability and safety.

Actually no, it wouldn't.

3608 Lincoln Ave, Oakland, CA 94602 MLS# 40456386 - Property Details

This is a block down from where I am. Completely safe area. This would also put you a block down the street from one of the best elementary schools in Oakland (Sequoia Elementary) and walking distance from one of the best high schools in Oakland (American Indian Charter).

Keep acting like you know what you're talking about...

More ignorance. Why do I bother? LOL

According to YOUR OWN LINK, the people who buy that house are going to pay about $2200 a month and that comes out to $26,400 a year on the mortgage payment alone.

That means 44% of the AVERAGE income goes to their mortgage payment.

Sorry Mr Fanatic, the cost to live near the California Coast is one pig where there isnt enough lipstick in the world to conceal.

By your own logic, the AVERAGE family shouldnt live in Costa Mesa-its too expensive for what you get in return.

Maybe they should try Temecula or Hemet. Good luck with that.

Nope. Its not affordable but people make do-life in California.

Of course, now Im starting to wonder if your even familiar with California based on this conversation.

Actually the crime spotting report says the intersection of Lincoln and MacArthur has had 11 violent crimes committed this year ALONE.

Try again.

WRONG. You simply don't know how to do simple arithmetic. With a 20% down payment, the mortgage payment will be $1,542 a month. I don't even know where you got the $2200 figure.

Math may not be your strong point, but honestly the numbers are located in the right column in the link I posted. All you had to do is scroll down and look at the figures instead of purposefully trying to mislead people looking for truthful information (which you do a lot).

yet that area is affordable for the people who live there.

Its in a neighborhood called Upper Dimond, which has an average family income of $72,309.

Try again indeed.

Oh really? Theyre going to put down $100,000? That's common for people with money from previous homes...but not the 'average' family, which is the tangent your currently on.

And 'average' families seeking 'affordable' homes are usually not in a position to put down that much-so if they put down 10%(which even then, is not very realistic for the demographic your so worried about)

And in that scenario, the payment comes out to over $2K-well BEYOND the means for the Average LA-OC family, which only has a median income of about $60K.

How sad.

Temecula is waiting. Ciao.

A fine champion for the Average family you turned out to be-back to the drawing board.
