The media isn't covering the Olneyville and Hartford incidents; I don't know if it's selective reporting or if they were considered less serious. Wanskuck has been all over the news. Silver Lake also.

Not sure. It is funny how it rarely gets media coverage, while it is obviously a very violent part of town. LOTS of drug activity around there.

Please also keep in mind that the recent stabbing at 44 Whittier Ave. was from this current month, and had yet to be added to the map. That is directly behind El Rancho Grande, which was the location of an incident last month. The entire area between Dorchester Ave. (where Mayor Elorza lives) and Hartford Ave. and then stretching over to Olneyville is literally peppered with incidents. The Hartford Projects are the HQ of the Southern New England opiate trade. The West End is where many of the city's gang bangers reside. Everything here there and in between is a war zone. Amazingly, with the year almost finished the resulting crime map comes with almost zero surprises (although there are a few which will be discussed further once the year comes to a close).

Deadly shooting in Olneyville.

I believe this is the 17th murder of the year for the city.

https://www.wpri.com/news/local-news...in-providence/

"PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police are at the scene of a deadly shooting in the city’s Olneyville section, Major David Lapatin confirms.
The shooting happened late Friday morning near the intersection of Putnam and Kossuth streets. The area is currently taped off as police investigate.
Major Thomas Verdi tells 12 News that two men were shot and taken to the hospital.
It’s the second fatal shooting in the city this week, after two people were shot early Monday morning at the University Heights apartment complex off North Main Street. A 33-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 50-year-old woman was wounded by a stray bullet that hit her in the arm as she slept inside her apartment."

Believe it or not, Putnam Street has cleaned up a lot over the years. Don't misunderstand that comment; it is absolutely not a safe street/area, but Putnam used to be a 24/7 open-air crack market and one of the most dangerous streets in the city.

I'd guess that the murder on Putnam Street in Olneyville on Friday was gang related. Why?

Providence police respond to shots fired at memorial for man killed in Olneyville

Off topic, I suppose, because this wasn't a shooting or a stabbing...but it was a serious violent crime.
