It should be noted however, that some areas of town remain hot (particularly Olneyville). Elmwood Ave. corridor seems to be a source of trouble as well.

The media isn't covering the Olneyville and Hartford incidents; I don't know if it's selective reporting or if they were considered less serious. Wanskuck has been all over the news. Silver Lake also.

Not sure. It is funny how it rarely gets media coverage, while it is obviously a very violent part of town. LOTS of drug activity around there.
Please also keep in mind that the recent stabbing at 44 Whittier Ave. was from this current month, and had yet to be added to the map. That is directly behind El Rancho Grande, which was the location of an incident last month. The entire area between Dorchester Ave. (where Mayor Elorza lives) and Hartford Ave. and then stretching over to Olneyville is literally peppered with incidents. The Hartford Projects are the HQ of the Southern New England opiate trade. The West End is where many of the city's gang bangers reside. Everything here there and in between is a war zone. Amazingly, with the year almost finished the resulting crime map comes with almost zero surprises (although there are a few which will be discussed further once the year comes to a close).

Believe it or not, Putnam Street has cleaned up a lot over the years. Don't misunderstand that comment; it is absolutely not a safe street/area, but Putnam used to be a 24/7 open-air crack market and one of the most dangerous streets in the city.
police met with a man and a woman who reported that while they were sitting in their vehicle at Cutler and Barstow Streets when two subjects approached the vehicle and attempted to open the driver side door.
