"PROVIDENCE — The police have converged on a section of Academy Avenue Saturday afternoon to Investigate a shooting. The scene, near Atwells Avenue, is cordoned off.
Whatever transpired appears to have involved a Honda Accord. It looks like the Accord rear-ended a telephone pole.
Providence police Maj. David Lapatin confirmed that a shooting took place. He said he had no other info he could provide.
The person who was shot is at Rhode Island Hospital, and the patient's condition is "very serious," Lapatin said.
Gertrude Beaubrun was in a nearby shop, St. Francis Convenience Variety Store, nearby cooking. She said she heard a loud boom. She went outside and saw an injured man in the car. "He was still breathing," Beaubrun said, adding that someone else telephoned the police."

That is across from the intersection with Maplehurst Ave.
"Detective Captain Tim O’Hara also gave an update Monday on two other shootings in Providence. A 17-year-old was arrested at an apartment in Lynn, Mass., in connection with the killing of a 19-year-old man on Academy Avenue back in February. O’Hara said the victim, Johnjairo Brito, and the suspect knew each other. Police are looking to charge the suspect as an adult, according to O’Hara."
"Police also made an arrest in a shooting that stemmed from an apparent road rage incident back in September, O’Hara said. Timothy Desjardins, 35, and Romero Velasquez, 37, had gotten out of their vehicles to confront each other about their driving in a parking lot off Atwells Avenue, police said. That’s when Desjardins allegedly fired at Velasquez, striking him in the head. Desjardins is being held without bail on assault and firearms charges, according to O’Hara, while Velasquez has since been released from the hospital. O’Hara noted that Desjardins has been arrested on firearms charges in the past."
