I was surprised to see on the news today that the Washington State Dept. of Health say there is no reason to disinfect your groceries.

"While you should thoroughly wash your hands after returning from the grocery store, there is no reason to try to disinfect your groceries, according to DOH."

Yeah, and don't wear masks. Or gloves? I am going to. I guess we need to just use common sense and to me cleaning the food, masks and gloves, leaving shoes outside, are just common sense at this time.

I don't know why anyone ever thought they SHOULD.

That video is absurd. Put away your dang groceries and wash your hands.

Actually wearing masks IS a good thing to do.

The S/O does the weekly shop, as I am homebound due to several health issues and I unpack and put away groceries, even before CV certain things I would rinse and dry or a can/jar that needed quick wipe dusty lid etc. The S/O notice last time he went the kids that re-stock shelves now all wear gloves and someone wipes/sprays the trolley/the cart before the public is allowed to take it and enter shop keeping 1.5 mtr distance between persons. Since the CV most food I boil, roast, pan fry etc. Even before CV was no shoes indoors.

I thought of that, and also we won't know if another has "left droplets" in an aisle that you walk into. Under regular circumstances prior, I would hear / see someone coughing, sneezing in an aisle before they exited at the other end, and I would turn and exit in the other direction, but what about when we enter an aisle unknowingly after another does this?

It has amazed me how (prior to Covid) some have had no awareness of this, then their children will do the same...and this is how it goes.

One shouldn't assume you need to touch another person or surface and then touch your face to catch the virus. The story of the choir practice is scary. Those people are saying they never touched each other. I believe they made it a point not to, trying to be safe. It was enough to be enclosed in a room for a period of time to get sick although none of them had any symptoms.

The experts aren't telling people not to clean their food (which is always a good idea), they're telling people not to try to disinfect their groceries. There's a big difference between cleaning fresh food and attempting to disinfect everything.

This reminds me of something I read somewhere many years ago. A reader asked how they could sterilize their hands. The answer was boil your hands in water for three minutes! LOL! Obviously absurd.

I am not surprised about the choir thing. The way this virus spreads is out of the ordinary. I stopped walking on a trail near my house, since even heavily breathing bikers, joggers etc could be exhaling germs into the air far enough for me to inhale them 4 feet away on the other side of the trail. I know this sounds extreme, but at age 65 and being asthmatic, I take this very, very seriously. And I do lovingly bathe any of my groceries that can be bathed in the sink with detergent, along with my hands at the same time, as well as before and after!
