The experts aren't telling people not to clean their food (which is always a good idea), they're telling people not to try to disinfect their groceries. There's a big difference between cleaning fresh food and attempting to disinfect everything.
My son gave me a great idea for disinfecting foods. Mix up some bleach and water in a spray bottle and just spritz it. I finally received my delivery from Target today. Left it on the porch for a few hours and then brought it into the garage this evening. Tomorrow I will open the boxes with gloves on. Then spritz everything.
I wouldn’t spritz any groceries, food, cookware, or anything that comes in contact with food, etc. with bleach. It’s not meant to be used that way and if ingested could result in very serious side effects.

It's not going to go through a can or plastic jar. It may wet a box but most things have plastic inside the box. Everything else is in plastic bags. So how is this different from using a Clorox wipe on the items?
I am not spritzing fresh produce. I can't get fresh foods delivered where I live.

Why chlorine bleach? A citrus-scented dish soap or unscented laundry detergent will do the job and not leave an awful smell and taste. Another question for all these folks wiping stuff with Clorox, how do you keep from ruining colored fabrics and clothes?

You'll have to mix up a fresh batch of bleach/water solution every day. Bleach mixed with water is unstable and turns into salt water after a day.
Yes, but not in high concentration (>80%), then it helps to preserve the virus. Soap solutions and alcohol diluted with water 3:1 are good alternatives to chlorine bleach.
