There is already a long, long thread about grocery shopping. A few people seem to be taking precautions, many seem to think they are unnecessary and silly.
I live in the NYC area. Many of us are taking the covid virus seriously. If so, as a person of retirement age, most of us should not be shopping. Forget the 6 foot MINIMUM recommendation. Forget sanitizing your cart or washing your clothing when you return. Stay home. If you have younger relatives or friends, maybe one of them will be willing to shop for you. Many of us have waited and waited but are finally able to get home delivery.
If you do get groceries delivered, or worst case, if you go shopping and return, here is a recommendation of how to handle the groceries:
This might seem excessive but my wife and I and the kids and their families have been taking similar precautions for the past week or so. Maybe the experts will be wrong, but they continue to predict tens of thousands of deaths. It is likely this virus will spread to hit a significant portion of our population. The death rate appears to be 1% overall but almost all of the deaths are for those of us 65 or older. Since we represent only about 15-20% of the total US population, you can readily see the death rate our age group is staggering.
I saw this video last night, but we are effective do this but in a separate way. We have one fridge to load the stuff we just ship and wait 3 days minimum before we move them to our house fridge. Same with non perishable food and mail.
We wash our hands frequently, disinfect our fridge frequently.
I think it’s important to be cautious.
You may have missed the information on Covid and the cold. Cold storage does not kill the virus. It can last for years frozen and who knows how long at refrigerator temps.
I balance that or having my vegetables rotten. It will not eliminate them but it will be weaken. Plus we wash them longer. I don’t use bleach for anything. I believe I saw this guy washes his fruit right away, that’s another way to make fruit rotten quicker.
Then we isolate ourselves for 5 days at least before going anywhere.
Cuomo is on TV and is now saying 80% is self resolved.

What nonsense, all that clown is doing is spreading any virus that’s on the wrappers and packaging around the room.
Well to be fair, he does have that line of blue tape walling off the “hot zone” — lol!
LOL!! Everyone now thinks they are a virus expert. It's like waiting in line but being 6 ft apart. When the person in front of you moves up the line, so do you so now you're in the space the previous person occupied breathing the air they just exhaled. Still it's better than nothing I suppose.
We are doing the initial processing outside on the front porch. Then after spraying and wiping with disinfectant, we are then washing canned goods and other items that can handle washing. We just got a major order from Costco. All the bulk items like pasta and canned goods are still sitting in the sun on the porch. We spent a half hour processing eggs, frozen packages, meats and more perishable items. Again, that was a two stage process with initial disinfectant used outside, then a final washing in the sink.
