What most people tend to forget is that Wal-Mart is no different than any other big company out there! Have they forced smaller companies to go out of business, yes. But they also hire many of those employees back in their stores with higher pay wages and better benefits!

As far as the products go, they carry the same products that other stores/grocery stores carry, but at lower prices.

I serisouly do not understand what all of the upset is about when it comes to Wal-Mart! I would think most people in the politics forum would LOVE Wal-Mart! They always support Republican candidates and promote conservative morals and values and capitalism! This is the stuff that Republicans love!!!

...

In Mundelein, a town of 35,000 about 20 miles northwest of Chicago, it was Supervalu, a national grocer based in Eden Prairie, Minn., that hired Saint to work behind the scenes, according to Saint documents. Supervalu's objective was to block Wal-Mart from competing with its nine Jewel-Osco supermarkets located within three to ten miles of the proposed shopping center, the documents indicate.

City officials say the effort stalled the development for three years and cost Mundelein millions in lost property and sales taxes.

Mr. Brownson, who has developed shopping centers in 15 states over 25 years, says he learned about Saint's involvement only recently when someone phoned him and spilled the news. "A huge national company conducts a dirty tricks campaign for its own goals, and a city and a developer become collateral damage," he complains.

Another method for killing the free market in America - fake protests and outrage.

Are these supermarket chains to greedy to lower their prices to compete with Walmart?
More like fear. Wal Mart is a POWERHOUSE! No one can stop the powerhouse lol.

The only people that may have an idea are those that can read a label on the side of a produce box or a meat carton in the backroom freezer. None of this is readily available information to the general grocery employee. And its certainly not common knowledge that you're required to know in case of customer inquiry.

I call major bs. You have some explaining to do. I stand ready to defend my assertion whenever you're ready.

What a JOY it must be to be put out of your mom and pop business, then stuffed into a tacky blue uniform so you can be part of a corporate nightmare.

And if the shoe was on the other foot...Wal-Mart was funding something to help build support for their plan to build another 500,000 sq ft mega center and run every other grocer in town out of business...You neo-cons would support it 110%.

You know what really gets me about Wal-Mart...Unfortunately I live in an area that Wal-Mart is king, so I've been stuck shopping at them a few times. They have like 42 lanes and never have more than 7 or 8 open. What a sheethole they are!

Clean, Modern stores, Wide Aisles, great selection, good prices - all this and more cause you to "run as fast as you could the other way"? roflmao!

WalMart carries the SAME brand names, manufactured in the same places, as you will find in any other department store.

And this is a fact.

Right-wingers hate political correctness so let's eliminate P.C. and just admit that Walmart is for poor people and Target is for the wealthy. It is class warfare. Target charges higher prices and provides a better shopping environment that lures white collar shoppers whereas Walmart offers lower prices at the expense of poorer service and a weaker ambience. And this fact is reflected in every element. Target carries many expensive products that Walmart doesn't carry. Target's store layout is more attractive and usually smaller. Target has less congestion. The employees at Target seem to be higher educated, more clean cut and younger. That is probably a result of Target paying better wages which attracts better job applicants. Target doesn't allow groups to loiter or pander for money like Walmart. I've never seen a group of wheel chaired veterans with a can asking for money or a girl scouts group selling cookies at Target. I've never seen benches outside Target with teenagers loitering outside the entrance but this seems to be a regular occurrence at Walmart. Target doesn't allow those groups to loiter because they don't want their customers being harrassed.
