So in short, NATO pushing eastward is a blatant lie.

And NATO could easily tell them no. "With the fall of the Soviet Union, we don't see any danger coming to you from Russia. We are the organization created by the Western countries, during the cold war times. Admitting you into this organization means that we won't follow the promises that we gave to Russia in terms of her security, and thus will lead to the new escalation of hostilities."
It was that simple.

Yes tensions are rising there, on that Polish/Lithuanian/Belorussian border, as the result of Wagner's arrival.

Except we won the Cold War, and to the victor go the spoils.

ISW Update 8/4/23

https://www.understandingwar.org/bac...-august-2-2023

Quote:
Aug 4, 2023 - Press ISW

Ukrainian forces conducted a series of aerial and naval drone strikes against Russian logistics and port infrastructure in occupied Crimea and Krasnodar Krai (a key Russian naval base) on the night of August 3 to 4. The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) claimed that Russian air defenses and electronic warfare units downed up to 13 Ukrainian drones targeting Crimea. Geolocated footage published on August 4 shows Ukrainian drones striking areas near an oil depot in Feodosia, Crimea, although it is unclear whether the drone strikes damaged Russian targets. Geolocated footage published on August 3 and 4 shows Russian forces firing on Ukrainian naval drones near a Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, and one of the naval drones striking the Russian Olenegorsky Gornyak Ropucha-class landing ship. The Russian MoD stated that Russian naval artillery fire destroyed two Ukrainian naval drones near the base in Novorossisyk. Geolocated footage posted later on August 4 shows the Olenegorsky Gornyak listing and a Russian support vessel towing the landing ship to the Novorossisyk port. Geolocated footage does not indicate the full extent of the damage to the Olenegorsky Gornyak, and Russian sources claimed that the damage was not critical and that the ship would be operational after an unspecified time of repair. Russian sources claimed that the Russian navy used the landing ship to transport civilian vehicles across the Kerch Strait amidst widespread disruptions to traffic across the Kerch Strait bridge.

Lastly, don't pretend that all of this was happening under normal conditions, with all the violence going on.

P.S. And in regards to the so-called "self removal", he might have watched that Christmas 1989 footage from a certain country not far away. What do you think
He was a crook sponsored by Putin. Putin was mad his puppet was driven out. Fact is that he did abandon his post. That's called resignation in any company.

Irrelevant. He was elected in what was deemed a free and fair election by international observers. Things go bad? Corruption? - you can impeach or vote in the next elections. As I said he probably watched that Dec. 25th, 1989 footage. Did you?

P.S. And btw, considering that Donbas residents voted 90% for him (even though they didn't necessarily liked him according to reports) tells you the reason they were pissed. Before everything else started.

So might makes right. Then don't complain when other countries do the same.

P.S. In regards to the Cold war - Gorbachev quit it and prevented WW3.
