Rofl, the west is desperate for Russia. It just refuses to accept Russia in one piece and armed with nuclear weapons because it wants a weak and subservient Russia. Without Russia, Europe is doomed.
Russia didn't kidnap children. Russia evacuated families, children were sent by parents to live with extended family in Russia, and parentless children from orphanages, group homes, and other state institutions were taken to Russia through volunteer organizations(think churches). In a handful of cases, the parents who had committed crimes were sent to jail/prison and their children were placed in state custody and transferred out of a warzone.
Oh, you mean like this church? If ISIS had a Christian branch...:
For two months, Ukrainian forces have been on the offensive, trying to break through Russian defence lines to begin the liberation of the occupied territories. The fighting has been difficult and progress has been incremental. But over time, the Ukrainians have been securing the advantage. The question now is whether they can push Russian forces to breaking point.
On a lighter note, Ukrainians are dropping contraptions that imitate the sound of gunfire on Russian positions during combat, making them think they're encircled.
They are also dropping those obnoxious hamster toys that "echo and repeat" any sounds they pick up to confuse the hell out of Russians and warn Ukrainians.
What does that have to do with being ethnically Ukrainian? And every member of his party who didn't abstain voted to remove Yanukovych. It was 338-0 to remove him. Every region of Ukraine, including Crimea, voted to leave the USSR.
1) Yes, every member who didn't abstain or didn't flee voted to remove Yanukovych. Obviously the vote was totally legit and no one was being intimidated whatsoever.
2) They voted to leave the USSR, not Russia, while the USSR was going bankrupt and there were breadlines, and long before Ukraine was ruled by anti-Russian nationalists. Even still, only a bare majority of Crimeans voted in favor of independence from the USSR.
Moreover, the impetus for independence from the USSR was based on the belief that Ukraine would be "better off" as an independent country. That Eastern Europe would be as rich as Western Europe if not for the USSR. But instead, Ukraine actually got poorer, while Russia thrived. Which is why a majority of Crimeans favored rejoining Russia long before the 2014 coup. My guess is that if Eastern and Southern Ukraine knew how it would turn out back in 1991, they wouldn't have voted for independence either.
