Why would a hospital take up an ICU bed for someone who does not need ICU care and just needs to be observed for minor symptoms? It does not make sense at all. Him spending a week in the ICU is indicative that he had some severe symptoms which led to him needing ICU care for a week.
Lawd he was only in the ICU because he's a politician.
I don’t know about that.
The initial announcement was Christie was admitted To the hospital out of an abundance of caution. That would not likely happen to Average Joe. We DK how quickly Christie’s condition went from an abundance of caution to the need for an ICU bed.
Reportedly, Christie received treatment similar to that Trump did. That would not likely have been available to Average Joe.
For all any of us know, Trump was in the equivalent of an ICU at Walter Reed.
Because a hospital is a business, has an ICU bed available that he wants to pay for. Are you seriously asking this question?
Why is it easer for you to believe that Christie was in the ICU only for observation instead of believing that he actually needed ICU care? His weight alone makes him very high risk for covid.

It is the exact opposite. If Christie was not ill they would not have tied up a bed, period. They would also not have admitted someone when it was not necessary out of fear of contaminating them. And you do not go into ICU unless a doctor deems it a necessity- chilling an extra day in a regular room is dicey but going into ICU without cause is not happening. Those are limited slots in good times. And if you can't validate/code the stay insurance will not pay. I won't even start on the political firestorm the hospital would face if they gave him a room without merit when someone else had cause.
I hope he continues to recover and am gald to hear he has the humility to admit he didn't take the risk as seriously as he should have. He is potentially an important ally for those who think it has been downplayed. Clearly his weight and pre-existing conditions (most notably asthma) were factors and I am sure his experience will be dismissed for that reason. But he is a high profile voice for those in similar situations.
More than 40% of the US population is obese. An additional 35% of the population is overweight and headed towards obesity.
Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Disease etc are common throughout the US population.
Agree Christie demonstrates humility to admit he was mistaken and relied too heavily on the quick tests with high false positive/ negative rates.
How many of us have attended low profile gatherings without masking or distancing, unknowingly become infected and gone on to infect others. And it spreads.
It is unknown how long one may be immune to reinfection at some future date. Months? years. Forever?
No diff than more than 40% of the adult population, including Trump.
