Actually, no. There was a proposition that was passed by Californians years ago denying an education to illegal aliens and some liberal judge over turned it. Yes, there are some loony liberal native English speaking Californians that are up for this nonsense but not sensible, law abiding ones.

39% of California is of Hispanic heritage.

15% is of Asian heritage.

I would not assume all those who do not speak English at home are from Mexico.

US expats living all over the world tend to speak English at home and it becomes the first language of their children.

This thread is asinine.

My parents did not do me any disservice speaking their native language in our home. Rather, it enhanced my ability to learn other languages. We barely spoke English in the house growing up, yet my brother and I are both fully assimilated, possibly with higher levels of proficiency in English than many others whose families have been in America for generations. And if you happened to talk to me on the phone? You would think you were talking to a white chick with a vaguely midwestern sounding accent.

Don't make assumptions about people. Go beyond your bubble and get to know immigrants and their families on a personal level. You will find a lot of your assumptions debunked rather quickly.

So what? What language is spoken in other people's homes has no effect on you.

Some 'white guy"? Wow, how racist of you.

In public it is preferable to be able to communicate in English, but at home, it is not my business.
OP took the first shot with the flyover comment. Theme be fighting words.

OP is predictable. We get it, you hate anything California or liberal for that matter. You live a perfect sheltered life in Nebraska. There is a reason Nebraska is flyover country.
The OP lives in the Phoenix metro in Arizona.

So what! As long as they can speak English what business is it of yours if they choose to speak another language at home or out and about while talking to their family and friends. Some of you Nativists opinions are ridiculous including yours.
