Guess, flyover country with 90% of more speaking English only is at a big disadvantage.
I was totally shocked when I heard this yesterday. I think it is fine to speak more than one language and to speak your native language at home is fine, as long as you have a good command of English; apparently more do not.

Like you wouldn't speak English to your family and friends?

What they speak at home is their business. So what? People need to mind their own business.

Discovery of North America has been attributed to Christopher Columbus who spoke Spanish.
The masses have been immigrating to the mainland for 367 years.

Your Government is hard at work right now contemplating a bill to create a new Visa for up to 1 million temporary Food Workers. This bill seeks to establish a $8.34 fixed wage, less the cost o recruiting, transportation, Workers Comp, uniforms, tools and more. It is intended for agriculture, meat / seafood packing- anything related to food production.

You mean like the daily numerous potshots taken at those who live on the West Coast?

Come to Chicago metro. You will hear a lot of Polish.

Take a walk through NYC. You will hear more than 100 languages/ dialects.

Hop over to Canada where about 21% of the population speak French.

The majority of Europeans are bi/ multi lingual. It's viewed as an asset.

I once had a very interesting conversation with a bi-lingual 9 year old girl in school. She told me that when she thinks about something it is generally in Spanish, but when she expresses those thoughts verbally it will be in English.

I suppose that is a true sign of being bi-lingual. How do you stop someone from thinking in a foreign language?

In this country, yes. Out in mainstream and at home.

Christopher Columbus was Italian. His native language wasn't Spanish.
