So why, if rural areas are so self sufficient do most of the rural Red states receive far more Federal spending than the urban Blue states. This is even more apparent when the calculation is done on a county level. To me the rural conservatives sound like a bunch of spoiled whining children complaining about their allowances.
For example most of rural Appalachia receives low cost electricity from the Federal Tennessee Valley Authority. Of course they ignore that government boon while claiming to be free thinking self supporting individuals that put independence first last and always. Is that why so many of them join the Army? After all the military is the biggest collection of independent thought in the country. Right?
ignorance, huh? so you're practicing discrimination towards a large group of American's...seems a little ironic, no?

Every educated, sophisticated urbanite knows food comes from either the grocery store or the cute little organic farmers market uptown. Within walking distance, of course.

Just another reason to eliminate all government subsidies.
Federal revenue sharing is the single worst program we ever allowed to permeate our society.
So I'm assuming these all might "self sufficient" people in rural areas won't be collecting Social Security, Social Security disability, Medicare, Medicaid, WIC, go to public schools, benefit from farming/agricultural subsidies, receive unemployment insurance, etc. .
Why would they turn down benefits ???? That would make them absolute fools.
I would direct one to consider this snippet:When government requires permission (license) to do something that our ancestors did without needing permission, we have witnessed the eradication of a right.
What changed our rights into government privileges?
When did we lose the right to :
[] Run a business
[] Engage in any occupation
[] Trade in medicine / medical care
[] Marry
[] Own a dog
[] Build a house
[] Transmit radio waves
[] Travel by automobile
... and so on...
Correct. We have allowed our government to totally control our lives. And it will never end because the power center in DC will never give up power.
I get tired of big brother always looking over my shoulder in my everything .I am not rural and I am tired of government.
