Has the US Military been stronger than any other up to this point in history? You mean you noticed that even though gays weren't allowed in or kept from being openly so that we managed to be the strongest military in the world? How presumptuous of us.
And so you assume that allowing gays to be open about their sexual orientation is going to somehow weaken the U.S. military? I don't understand how you can come to that conclusion. It makes no sense.

I am for this IF the military - NOT Obama - doesn't mind. The military knows what works for itself and what doesn't. The miliary is not a democratic republic as is our nation.
The military is NOT a democratic republic. Do you see any of those soldiers "electing" their leaders? It is a career workplace just like any other where you earn your stripes and work your way up the food chain.
Do you take anything Meghan McCain says seriously? Do you remember her remark about old people over 40? She went from a leaning liberal whiner to college savvy overnight. Hmmm, nothing curious about that transformation, is there?
Let just ignore the poll taken by platoon leaders, 70% of whom said repeal of DADT would be disruptive and counter productive. How about the over 60% of field polled servicemen who didn't like it? Only 29% would share open showers with homosexuals. Half a million troops (24%) would leave service early. Only 6% would recommend military service if repeal passes. Only 5% say repeal would help morale.
I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the near future we'll be unable to defend our country let alone anyone else. Write it down on a calendar, DADT will either be repealed or the former will occur.
You are proof that if you say lies enough times (it's a victory for servicemen) then it becomes the truth.

I'm pretty sure this was being pushed for long before anyone knew who Obama was. Even before DADT. It's not dependent on anyone "minding".

Hell, allowing gays to serve openly is actually what Clinton wanted in fact he ran on repealing the ban on gays serving in 1992. DADT only came about as a compromise when Clinton wasn't able to get enough support from Congress and the Military for a full repeal.
Thank you Mr. President for taking us one more step down the road of human dignity by repealing DADT. Thank you for FINALLY not pandering to the right wing hate mongers and fear mongers and doing what you were elected to do. My only question is, what took you so long? I hope you learned a valuable lesson - the only way to deal with the right wing extremists is OFFENSE not defense because there's no pacifying the snarling, foaming at the mouth hyenas. Aggression is all they understand. Once their viscous lies and stereotypes are exposed they skulk away to their rat holes and pathetic hate mongering websites where they can spew their venom among their own twisted kind in relative obscurity. I hope you will be equally dedicated to gay marriage so we can finally demolish the most treasured right wing bigotry once and for all.
geos? not to be critical but I understand why it took so long to repeal DADT. If Obama would have just signed a Excutive order for repeal the next President could have simply revoked it.
Remember Obama is a Constitutional law professor so he knows how laws work.He knew it would take a act of Congress to permanetly repeal DADT instead of him signing a order instead.
Don't mind me, just here to take in the wailing and gnashing of teeth - the bigots' last hurrah, as it were. As the segregationists before you, you've been consigned to history's dustpile.
Honorable people who wish to serve their country can now do so without covering up who they are. Good work all around - the President, the House and in particular, those Republican Senators who had the nerve to adopt a less popular viewpoint.

Then like any other workplace in most of the CIVILIZED world your sexual orientation shouldn't make a damn bit of difference in terms of your job performance.
