I didn’t know you moved there? I thought you lived near the drug bust in Florida.

You are probably on a first name basis with the penis drug thief.

I miss uptownkid shedding light on all these shootings, but at the end of the day it is always the same stories. Sure are a lot of murders around here, but Pittsburgh is mild compared to other cities I guess.

Like I said at the beginning of this thread, a slow day for many cities.

It is as the bar is quite low in many cities. St. Louis has the most murders per capita followed by Baltimore. Pittsburgh is way down the list. Just to put that in perspective how safe Pittsburgh actually is here are some numbers. This is murders per 100K people, so it is a way of really looking at things per capita. It is from 2017, but it takes time to compile real data it seems and the rates would be similar for 2021 with an uptick of sorts.

St. Louis, MO (69.4)
Baltimore, MD (51.1)
New Orleans, LA (40.6)
Detroit, MI (39.7)
Cleveland, OH (33.7)
Las Vegas, NV (31.4)
Kansas City, MO (31.2)
Memphis, TN (27.1)
Newark, NJ (25.6)
Chicago, IL (24)
Cincinnati, OH (23.8)
Philadelphia, PA (20.2)
Milwaukee, WI (20.0)
Tulsa, OK (18.6)
Pittsburgh, PA (18.4)
Indianapolis, IN (17.7)
Louisville, KY (17.5)
Oakland, CA (17.1)
Washington D.C. (17.0)
Atlanta, GA (16.7)

Pittsburgh is pretty mellow. I am not sure about Allegheny County as there are a lot of murders in our suburbs. Penn Hills and Wilkinsburg make the news often.

All and all, Pittsburgh is pretty mellow if you compare it to the top cities. Cleveland is wildly more violent, but were is Buffalo? Also, no Florida cities? Interesting.

Sometimes it is good to look at these numbers and realize Pittsburgh isn't that violent. Sure there are shootings daily, but that is just city life.

the problem with those stats is they are averaged over the size of the city and its metro area...most cities, pittsburgh especially, the bulk of these occur in literally a couple blocks. take out inner harbor or hampsterdam in baltimore...and its a quite peaceful city.
