Those aren’t rural counties. It’s NEPA, the poconos, and the Lehigh Valley. Combined, probably similar in size to Allegheny county, but more importantly it’s full of New Yorkers.

Ah that makes sense then, I didnt check which counties I just saw the map and statement that it was rural counties. NJ is having that issue, family down south and many are talking about the great escape from NY to their 2nd homes at the shore.

The counties with the highest rate of case growth are different than the highest per-capita numbers though, and include some fairly rural ones like Carbon, Columbia, Lebanon, Northumberland, Schuylkill, and Wayne.

Well the damn nyc people are probably fleeing. No stopping them. Don't know if that is true, but thought I would throw that out there.

We are supposed to have a very bad week or two coming up. That was the prediction.

Keep calm and remember this is going to make its rounds. Pittsburgh and our county are doing great so far and we have a TON of hospital space if needed that isn't even close to be used at this time.

Hopefully in a couple weeks we will level and mellow a bit. Lets hope Stay inside if you can and when shopping for food, buy a lot at one time so you don't have to go out again.

Take care all.

God, we've been so lucky so far during this entire thing in our area. Even just to the west in the Cleveland and Youngstown areas, it's worse there than here. When the stay-at-home order was issued for Allegheny County, I thought it seemed a little early but I think the earliness of it has clearly paid off.

The county is now releasing data on the location of cases by municipality - and neighborhood within the city of Pittsburgh.

In absolute numbers, it looks like Richland has the most cases. Proportionate to population, it's Glen Hazel (which is bad, since it's mostly senior citizens).

In general it looks like COVID-19 remains more of a problem in wealthier/whiter parts of the city and county though, and hasn't broken into the black neighborhoods in a big way. For example Squirrel Hill in total has 39 cases, while all of Homewood has 1 case. This might be due to less testing in black neighborhoods, but considering multiple states have shown black Americans are way more likely to die of COVID-19 (likely due to a higher propensity for the underlying medical conditions that put you at risk) it's a damn good thing it hasn't worked its way into much of black Pittsburgh yet.

Pittsburgh tends to listen for the most part. In poorer parts of the city and surroundings, I don't think they are listening much though. At least from what I have seen.

Yeah that is interesting. I wasnt really thinking of race breakdowns just more population density and would have expected more in more populated areas. I guess we should be happy that is not the case since then it would have likely lead to greater spread.

You also need to consider religious beliefs. Certain strong religious beliefs feel that the need for certain in person religious requirements are more important than the social distancing which can be seen in higher rates of infection.
