W O W - has it been a wild & crazy week!!

the power company in southern nye county is valley electric (beatty, amargosa, pahrump). i'm not sure where the imaginary line is drawn but northern nye county (tonopah, gabss, etc) use nv energy.

last friday the cops decided to raid valley electric offices. they had received reports about the former ceo sexually harrassing females on staff, then the company allegedly paid hush money to cover it up & that is why our rates will be increasing starting march 1st. i guess the cops had enough evidence to get a search warrant signed by a judge. they went into the electric company offices friday morning, feb 22nd & gathered more evidence.

lemme tell ya, the emails we received as coop members.....not at all what you'd expect. i figured we'd get the standard "our company does not agree with the charges, we are cooperating with officials, we are launching our own investigation" kind of response. ooooo noooo, not anywhere close! <the attached are the 2 emails we received>

https://www.reviewjournal.com/busine...er-up-1605229/

just as the dust was starting to settle, then the next bombshell went off.

the newly appointed ceo was arrested for embezzling! i guess she didn't like seeing power lines at her house, so she had crews come out & bury the electric cables in the ground & then sent vea a bill for $75k!!

imagine what will happen next!

let's get caught up....donkey basketball was delightful as usual. the normal announcer (kevin) wasn't available for this game, so they had a standin. he was ok, but we're used to kevin. kevin will interact (aka harrass) with the players & is sharp witted. the standin announced the game without any extra flurishing comments. hopefully kevin returns next year.

got an extra $20 in your pocket? that's good, buy some poop squares! leftover $$$ goes to the schools:

this poor guy. the donkey he chose had NO interest in doing what the rider wanted. the donkey literally drug the guy up & down the court multiple times. once he was on the donkey, he was fine. when he got off the donkey, there was no cooperation from the donkey. the shoes the guy was wearing had absolutely no traction

starbucks is days away from opening (mar 25). the employees are currently training & you can smell coffee while standing in the parking lot. it'll be interesting to see if the kiosk inside albertson's sees a drastic drop in business once this standalone store opens.

here's a blast from the past - the white castle you see on your way into town, aka "the kingdom". on jan 18, 2014 (pg 23) post #228 is the full description of the castle & it's beginnings.

it's been sitting empty for years now. i know a few of the local business owners have been approached to purchase the building/site. each has politely turned the owners down, as the stigma that comes with that building is not something those businesses would be able to overcome easily (building was originally advertised as "family establishment" only to be a strip club). soooo, the owners decided it was best to tear it down & sell it as an empty lot & quite frankly, the parking lot is a joke.

what it looks like today (3/18/2019):

https://pvtimes.com/news/pahrump-kin...to-fall-67773/

i wonder how long it will sit before someone buys the site?

there's a new restaurant in town! it's called noodles & crepe, located on hwy 372 in the old tropical smoothie building. i'm not entirely sure when it officially opened, as nothing was in the local paper about it - which is totally bizarre, as the newspaper building is DIRECTLY across the street from this place. surely they noticed the plethora of cars in the usually empty parking lot as well as the banners stating "now open".

i had lunch & dinner there yesterday. they are still working out the kinks, so service is a little slow, some things on the menu are not available quite yet. good food, good sized portions. hopefully it does well! open wed - mon, 11am-9pm

how about a little flora & fauna for a change? we've had an unusual amount of rain this year - some are saying we've already reached our annual rainfall (~4 inches) & it's only may. during monsoon season we could potentially see an additional couple of inches. with rain comes weeds & flowers. we've seen the news out of southern california about the "super bloom", here in town...we had our own, but on a much smaller scale.

the desert floor is normally tan with various greenery thru out the year (sagebrush, cacti, yucca plants, etc). this last month when you looked out over the desert floor it was green, not many spots of tan showing thru. in addition to the green, there were yellows, purples, pinks & burgundy colors. some of them weeds, some of them wildflowers. twas fascinating to drive thru town & see the different spotches of color.

while out driving one day in april, i found this wildflower/weed
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...in/dateposted/

it's nothing fancy, just a green stem & a cute little purple flower. when you have an acre+ of them, it looks like this:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...in/dateposted/
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...in/dateposted/

it was breathtaking to see fields of this mighty little flower. the semi super bloom lasted for a few weeks & then was replaced with normal desert colors.

in my own yard, i've had an interesting transformation take place. i have a handful of roses, 99% of them moved with me from northern california. everyone survived & is doing quite nicely. there is one that is a lavendar/lilac kinda color. it's always been compact, low to the ground. lately it's going thru some....changes.

i think whatever the original plant was spliced with, the splice is wearing off. these last couple of years, i see waaaay more red flowers than lavendar/lilac. the green leaves are a different size/shape & i have these long arms that shoot up. it won't be long before the lavendar/lilac is completely gone from the dna
