I was forced to watch Redemption (with Jason Statham) against my will. I actually ended up liking it...

I saw Out of the Furnace today. I think it wasted some very good performances by not having a clear message. It was also very slow.

The uh Facebook movie and Zombieland on TV. Both with the same fast talking actor.

I thought the Facebook movie was pretty interesting mostly because it was based on a real story, but not really riveting or anything. The Napster guy played by Justin Timberlake sure looked like a douchebag.

Zombieland...not a cult zombie follower but it was ok. Closed my eyes for a lot of the gore. Bill Murray's very short almost cameo was the best part.

Default Really liked it....

Wolf of Wall Street

I had read the reviews but it was better than I thought it would be. Makes you think. I can't believe all the excessive behavior.

Saw Blue Jas, Philomena, Nebraska all award winners, in my op.
August Osage County, very good....but same old great performances from all the ole
veterans. No surprises...happy a couple TV actors got a break in it.
Jack Ryan was good bec, thank God it wasn't another Tom Cruise movie.
Kevin C looking surprisingly good.

This weekend I watched 2012's The Sweeney, about a London group of elite police officers, with Ray Winstone, based on a 70s TV show. Cinematography was wonderful & it was shot in that subtle blue light I like... gives film a sterile, futuristic look, good for this plot. To that end, the police dept's office, virtually a gorgeous glassed-in penthouse overlooking central Londontown was a bit hard to accept, compared to the usual old, dull police dregs we're accustomed to seeing... but, we're supposed to know they are the elite coppers.

For those who have trouble with Hackney accents & a bit of cockney slang, it may take an initial bit of strained listening before absorbing the cadence of 1/2 the actors. The plot was different & good, albeit too rushed. The Hollywood ending annoyed me a bit, but is excusable, since it's prevalent in many films.

Suspending belief in an odd way is necessary... believing 50-something, fat, gruff, working class all the way Winstone has attracted a young, beautiful, smart, married woman, ready to toss away her life for him... well, only in Harrison Ford & Clint Eastwood movies is this difference not mentioned. Also, believing Winstone is capable of physical stunts is laughable, including the scenes of his supposed running down stairs or giving chase, where he's simply shown at the top of long, windy staircases, then at the bottom, not remotely out of breath when all the in-shape 30-somethings are... well, it is a movie. (For those who don't know Winstone, he played Henry VIII & still has the same rotund shape).

I liked it, but wanted to like it more... I wish they'd done more with the material & that the action scenes were more convincing. The scene where all the elite, special forces, highly trained good guys & bad guys fire high powered guns for 10-min, missing their marks over & over from 20-ft away is when I knew it wouldn't be as good as I'd have preferred. Not realistic, but entertaining for Winstone's added humor. Still, worth a watch if wanting to laze about for 2-hrs.

3* out of 5.
