My gf and I saw these over the weekend:
1. Captain Phillips (okay bio-pic with dramatic ending)
2. You're Next (low-budget slasher flick. sequel doubtful)
3. Charlie Countryman (great Indy film starring Shia LaBeouf)

August: Osage County...very good acting but a little heavy and too much of a downer.

I agree, BB. Saw it this weekend. Julia Roberts' acting is brilliant, as are all actors, but Meryl Streep's character is so despicable, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, I found her constant cruelty hard to bear & almost walked out. It's advertised as a comedy drama... how they get off calling it a comedy is beyond my comprehension... there was nothing humorous in this film at all.

Horribly depressing story & it just twists & turns with more & more depressing incidents, one after another. The one good thing is, if anyone feels they came from a tough childhood, watch this movie & you'll fully know you didn't have it all that bad. Depressing as all bloody h*ll.

2* out of 5 (only for the incredible acting)

For a remake, I thought it was pretty decent. Not as good as the original. The first time I saw the original movie, the ending just blew me away.

Red Dawn (original), so much better than that crappy reboot one.
The Wolverine: 6 out 10 stars. Kind of disappointing. I like the first Wolverine movie better.
The Lone Ranger: 7 out of 10. Funny moments.
The Last Stand: 7 out of 10. Better than I thought.

Finished watching the TV series:

Dexter: Overall, a good tv series. A low 8 out of 10. I really, really like season 1. The ending left me disappointed.

I watched part of "Moonrise Kingdom" last night. It's a really cute movie, shot very well but for whatever reason, I can't put my finger on it, I just couldn't totally get into it so I turned it off. But I do recommend it for anyone else.

Just watched "Arsenic and Old Lace" for the first time.
Hilarious! I love that period for movies.

Mandela- absolute disappointment. Idris Elba didn't even look remotely close to him which made it feel like I was watching a fake gimmick. The whole thing felt rushed and just goes to support my theory that these sort of life stories are best told in a multiple part tv series rather than in a movie. 4/10.
