I think it is a bit different considering the universe rules. I believe that from the Fantastic Four until Civil War, it was ret conned that there was only seven years that transpired between the comics. Cyclops, Jean and Beast were all in their teens at that point. Now compare that to the movies, Marsden and Jensen both looked to be in their early to mid 30's meaning that there was little way that they would indeed be Xavier's first class in 1962 unless the 80's tech in the X-Men world was super advanced compared to the real world.
That meant for X-Men: First Class, Matthew Vaughn had to take liberties with the characters to mostly fit the timeline. This is why Beast was the only original X-Men member of the team. Besides a random sighting of Hank McCoy and Sebastian Shaw debating mutants in X2 and the amnesia of Xavier not knowing Mystique, it pretty much fit the timeline honestly. X3 and Wolverine Origins entirely deserved to be ret conned out of existence so any confusion with those movies vs First Class shouldn't be relevant.
Given the universe rules, I will give a pass to Apocalypse on paper. So long as the big guy don't die (and he could just return to his Lazarus chamber anyway) we can see Cable come in and have issues with a returning Apocalypse in X-Force movies after he is introduced in Deadpool 2.
As I said earlier, I want to see the film before I give my opinion on if it stunk or not. I hear it stunk but I often don't always see the issues critics have whether it is a popcorn flick or not.
This is coming from a diehard xmen fan. comic books + 90 cartoon show. This movie stunk hard.

First Class is one of the best CBMs out there. McAvoy and Fassbender own their respective roles.

F the critics. I'm more interested in WHAT you have to say about the film, not RT ratings. When the deluge of negative BvS reviews emerged, I knew something was up. I also knew CW would get glowing reviews regardless of how it turned out (I liked it, but it's not the "best MCU film" like many say).

First Class is within my top 15 if not 10 due to the quality of CBMs that came out since Iron Man in 2008. Not a knock on First Class at all but it like comparing a great flank steak to filet mignon.
As for the critics, I am glad you give my view that much weight. I try to leave the comics at the door the best I can especially after my dislike of Days of Future Past the first time when I was disappointed in it I saw it versus the second time when I loved it. Just don't ask me about the Rogue Cut... I will say that I think these negative views, actually don't damper my expectation of it.
FYI, while I loved Civil War, it is likely my second favorite of the MCU and a top 5 CBM to me but it isn't a Winter Soldier that was a mind blowing Nolan Batman movie without the overly dark tone and was still true to the set up universe rules established to that point.

Unless I'm mistaken, you're a comics guy like me (meaning we're watching movies adapted from stories we read in print years ago).
That also applies to The Ryu, who said the movie's not good. I've heard mixed reviews: straight-up 50/50 good bad. I'm on the fence about seeing it after DoFP likewise disappointed. But if it's a good romp, as was CW, that's cool.
One thing's for certain...Olivia Munn looks hotter than hell!!
Munn is a beautiful woman, but that costume is ridiculous. She looks like she just got kicked out of a post-Olympics diving team S&M party.
