Not only are you wearing gloves and masks but you are interacting with way less people and staying home and not getting introduced to new bacteria. your not seeing as many people. Just like you have to exercise your muscles you have to exercise your immune system or it gets weaker.

I think ill trust the doctors on this. I dont even need a doctor to tell me this .
I agree with this. It is reasonable to assume that wearing a mask (and limiting your contact with others and staying indoors) for weeks at a time will impair your immune system. You need to exercise your immune system like you exercise your muscles. The claim that wearing a mask for an extended period of time does not impair your immune system is the extraordinary claim, and that is what needs to be documented.

I’ve wondered about what it will be like when we do start interacting with others. My family typically gets a cold in March or early April. Didn’t happen this year. I wonder if people will get sick once things are ‘normal’ again from being so unexposed.

Agreed.

The immune system is no different than any other skill or function. If you don't use it, you start to lose it. It is as simple as that.

Folks we are not talking about hibernating from the world in complete sterility for the next six months. Your immune system has had an entire life to develop, the most significant part being during your formative years. A 40 year old isn't going to ruin it by wearing a mask to the grocery store.

Judging by the latest numbers, the MA peak sure does seem like a plateau.

The model that nobody likes to reference just bumped the deaths up to 5400 and our social distancing relaxiTion to June 21

There was a pandemic is 1957 actually, and to a lesser extent 1968.

‘57 was around 70k death over 12-18mos...and we’ll be passing that shortly in 3 mos

I read the 1968/69 (Hong Kong Flu) was 100,000 deaths in the US. Adjusting for the considerable US population increase since 1968 that would equivalent to 160,000 deaths today.

Looks like around 100k for the 57 and 68 pandemic each. You are right that I didn’t take it into consideration as a percent of the population so we do have a little way to go to equal those.

But IIRC each of those pandemics was over a year in duration and two distinct waves.
