I feel that these precautions were mostly theatre, to allow some to feel that they were doing something.

There were many deaths at first. Then people gained immunity and it wasn't as bad later on. I still felt like crap when I got it this year.

I'd argue that the only difference between now and a year ago is a concerted effort to minimize it. Thousands are still dying weekly.
