The info on the Johns Hopkins site shows Mass at 2.0% positives. Now that's well below the national average of 6.3% positives shown there, but it's still significantly higher than what they show for Maine - 0.9%.

Not sure which data is more valid, but even there it's virtually tied with NH (which is not required to quarantine).

Here is an August 20th situational update, a national review from CDC head Robert Redfield - he's speaking with JAMA Network's Dr Howard Bauchner. It's informative, and I noted that he's clearly a lot more relaxed speaking in a professional than a political environment.

I'm wondering the same thing. I look at this site daily https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ and MA almost always has better numbers than NY & NJ. I hadn't seen the Johns Hopkins site, which is interesting. Someone else mentioned our Republican Governor & I can't help but think that might play a part...

I considered that, but RI has a Democrat governor (still quarantined) and Baker is basically a RINO and not viewed by many as a Republican.

Well now 53 total cases linked to this stupidity, and one death so far. Just goes to show...

The Big Moose Inn was cited, sounds like they got off pretty lightly though. Not even a fine.

That program continued to 1975.

Penicillin came into popular use in 1942. they could have all been treated and cured by 1945.
Yes, and they absolutely should have been.

Yeah, I think they should have been pounded. A $10,000.00 fine would have sent the appropriate message.

The church should have got pounded too.

If the gathering at the Millinocket wedding and reception had only been 50 people instead of 65, then it would have been fully in compliance with the Maine guidelines limiting gathering size. Anyone can see that this outbreak could have occurred with 50 people just as well as with 65. So that explains why the lack of official action IMHO.... unless it was something like 300 people in attendance, then the gathering was, in essence, in the accord with the state guidelines. There is no rationale to condemn a gathering of 65 versus saying 50 is OK.

And as far as political affiliation.... I doubt that the germs consider that factor when infecting their next host LOL

1.1% as of Aug 24.

This is a political hit job.
For comparison, NJ's positivity rate was 1.65% on Aug. 13.
