I was speaking to someone tonight who lives in NYC who had no idea what is going on on Long Island, outside of Long Beach. Apparently, nothing was mentioned on NY1, even though News 12 reported about NJ and NYC to us Long Islanders.
Unfortunately, with the poor standards of journalism today, celebrities capture a lot of attention. I'm not expecting much from our part-time 2 weeks in August East End celebrity residents, including Tom Brokaw and Barbara Walters, but where's Billy Crystal, Eddie Murphy, Jerry Seinfeld (who organized and hosted a telethon for Nashville when they had their great flood of 2010) and all the other entertainers who are emblematic of Long Island?
Guys, you're on your own. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a super-celeb to save the day.
Is 12 picking up on the discontent? It's hitting a bit on Newsday's blog. http://www.newsday.com/long-island/t...land-1.4191989
Nashville is an "industry" town, with a lot of entertainment people based out of it.

Clark, Anderson Cooper made a brief mention of the discontent on his show last night.
Bon Jovi and The Boss are supersaturating the media about NJ. Steve Buscemi was calling attention to the devastation in Rockaway on Katie Couric's show and he's not even from Rockaway.
Buscemi's show Boardwalk Empire films in Greenpoint, Staten Island and Rockaway, so I can see why he's going to bat for them. BTW I have family and deep roots in both places.
I guess the people of Long Island have to realize that they are competing with areas in their own backyard for just about everything. Just think if Buscmemi's show filmed in Lindenhurst or Babylon, maybe it'd be on the radar.
Having a big mouth DOES make a difference! After sending out snippets from News 12 about the devastation on LI to every one of my Facebook friends, a friend contacted me. She showed my postings to her SIL who is from the midwest and has connections. Of course, no one out there had heard about LI being affected by the storm, but now she is having the Twin Cities news channels do a segment on areas of LONG ISLAND affected by the storm and people still struggling in Sandy's aftermath. She has been gathering supplies (truckloads) and has asked me to put together a list of places where they should be delivered to those individuals and makeshift shelters on LI who can use the stuff. She even got the Target Corp onboard to provide their trucks and to donate supplies specifically to those on Long Island who have had their homes destroyed and have lost everything. Yay!
Someone needs to get on some newsperson's twitter and get the ball rolling. Social media is king these days. NBC's Ann Curry is a huge tweeter and these stories are right in her wheelhouse.
Or maybe someone can get ahold of Chris Matthews so he can see the "other side" of this wonderful storm

Oh, I understand ClarkStreet. I have over a hundred years of family roots in Rockaway and I'm pretty sure my grandmother's house took a big hit.
I was discussing with some of my old school chums how few people in NYC ever heard of Rockaway or knew where it was, let alone people in other states. It was always so remote. All of sudden, people in small towns in the mid-west know about it so now when I have to explain where I'm from, I can remind people it's that place with the fires and storm surge during Hurricane Sandy. That's going to be it's claim to fame, instead of Playland.
My kids knew of Rockaway from the Ramones song.
It's also where my mom met my dad.
It is pretty sad that SI, Rockaway and now damaged parts of Long Island need an advocate or get ignored.
BTW Good job kdlugozi!
Far Rockaway is where my mom grew up along with neighbors I knew growing up...
