If you're looking for your idea of "the Vegas experience" and you aren't super rich or super trendy then you probably won't be that impressed with CC. I'd really be interested to hear your thoughts about it after your trip. It's pretty much the antithesis of everything Vegas has been for the past 20 or so years.

Not sure about the dining - the buffet was bad, but obviously that's going to be low end compared to the restaurants.

What do you mean by this? From my view, Vegas has gone more high end and chic the last decade or so (starting with Bellagio, Venetian, etc.) CC is high end, but its design does not blend well with the rest of the city. From the point of being high end, I don't think CC differs much from the more recent LV developments.

I for one kind of like the themed casinos. IMO, it's a uniquely Vegas experience. I can stay in a exclusive, high-end hotel in many cities. It makes for the "tourist" experience. Vegas does not have great architecture otherwise (not that it necessarily qualifies as great, but there is nothing appealing about your run-of-the-mill 50 story hotel) or Broadway or a number of other things. And since gambling is more widespread, including globally, I think the spectacle is an important part of the attaction.

Have not been to CC yet, but just saying I think when I've been to Vegas, the visual spectacle of a Venetian, Paris, Caesars even Fremont St. is a memory that stays with you. I consider Wynn (and likely CC), while a classy place that appeals to many, ultimately kind of forgettable.

In other words, I consider the hotel part of the experience. And if it is indistinguishable from places in San Fran or NY, then it's not a draw and IMO fails to add to the Vegas spectacle.

City Center isn't doing so good. They are laying off GRAs left and right. I wonder which department is next.

As for your last statement, I think MGM was sort of trying to copy some of the more cosmopolitan type cities (i.e. SF, NYC, London, etc.) when it was planning CC. It's definitely a high-end, nice, chic complex, but it might not be the best idea for the Vegas Strip.

If CC turns out to be a flop, this should perhaps create a smile on Icahn's face as he's in the bidding to buy Fountainbleu and complete that project.

Perhaps the reason there haven't been more bidders is the fear that CC would be a raging success and it would be a poor investment to spend the $1.5B to complete it and compete with City Center.

Let's hope that in the next 3 weeks, they pick the right developer who will turn Fountainbleu into a big success story.

I too was kind of bummed out by City Center.

We went to check out Aria, 99% of the rest of the place I would never visit.. why would I want a hotel room in a hotel with no casino and where I cant smoke in my room? lol

But anyway.. we got there, and were told that Self parking is closed because they wanted to encourage valet. Well that was almost a deal breaker for me. I keep a loaded weapon in my vehicle at all times, and quite frankly I wont leave it in the car without ME having the keys. I also have many radios in the vehicle as well and don't want people who are unlicensed playing with them (Ham radio gear mainly)

Anyway I managed to drive out of the "Complex" and unloaded/locked the gun away and hid most of the radio gear so I came back into the place and Valet parked.

Casino was nothing all that exciting.. as others have said it IS dark.. however i like dark.. lol so it was ok with me.. but its not all that great.

The buffet was crummy, granted it was a Sunday brunch, but for 50 bucks I expect better than what I could have got for free with comps at any station casino.

We did win a few tiny bits of money.. but nothing all that exciting.

Thanks.. but I wont be back any time soon. It didn't thrill me at all. To me it felt like an office building that has a casino in its basement.

That's it. I figured out what CC is missing. MGM needs to bring in some bums and have them panhandle (and occasionally urinate) on the sidewalk in front of CC. That's that "cosmopolitan atmosphere" that I found missing. They could add to the realism by having one of them have a screaming match with an imaginary foe every half-hour.
