I really hate to see this, but I can't say it is a surprise. Terrible situation for the employees. Hopefully the Sahara will help them find employment with MGM Resorts. Unfortunately, the Sahara has been going downhill for some time. I stayed there several times, over the years, and on each visit, the hotel always seemed a little worse for wear. It would be great if the owners come up with some good development plans for that specific location, and the whole north end of the strip!

I can't remember, who owns the Sahara? Is that MGM? Seems like someone recently bought it to redevelop. This is probably part of their overall plan. EBITDA is probably still positive but unclear how much debt it can support.

Not to be sarcastic (okay, maybe I do mean to be sarcastic ), but wouldn't it have been easier to just click on the link to the article rather than pose your question? After all, it was in the 2nd sentence. Here allow me to make it even easier:

Sahara owner SBE Entertainment of Los Angeles announced this morning the 1,720-room Moroccan-themed hotel-casino would close while the company explores plans for the site at the corner of the Strip and Sahara Boulevard.

I had a lot of good times there and am sad to see it go. I especially liked the House Of Lords steakhouse. They had the best filet mignon and lobster tail I have ever had.

I am completely bummed out.

I have stayed exclusively at the Sahara for the past 15 years or so.

The crap tables there were great and I didn't have to be a huge roller to get comped free rooms and meals there.

To some it was an older, worn down location but I found it to be a terrific value for Vegas.

Ok, didn't notice the link. Will be more observant next time.
