They also did or still do Coast Casinos including SouthPoint, which is doing very well and expanding.

I agree with Ecco, they are great at what they do and will make the casino way better than the last operators did. I've discussed in detail the new plans with both owners of Intrepid. They get it. The changes they are making will make the casino successful as well as adaptable in the future. The last operator Ciri Gaming didn't get it. I've discussed this before, Ciri Gaming lost their lease effective 9/8/10, so they had to go no matter what.

I also confirmed that the casino is not changing its name. Maybe the player's club name will change. It was formerly "Club Uno". The new casino will really beef up the customer service and have a great "club lounge" where you will sit to sign up for the club instead of standing at a window etc. The entrance from the village will be "grander" and enlarged. There will be food as well.
My reservation is two-fold. (1) this casino is not a Station or Boyd property and must be marketed differently. Previous owners did not get that. (2) this group has been awfully secretive about what's happening and that, in my opinion, is suspect. I don't see how the casino can open by the end of May. As a casino guy who has been involved with 2 start-up properties, I can tell you there is a lot of work to do and time is short. Last point - what about staff? Will this group be the management and hire only lower level employees? Will outsiders really understand the local market in this area? I hope the casino opens successfully and is profitable. It will be a big part of the revitalization of Las Lake Vegas. Forgive my skepticism; I just want it to work this time.

@DenMac. I don't know all of your answers, but I do know that the casino was more turn-key than was earlier suspected. There are alot of trucks and workers in the casino every day to get the job done. I've toured the property and spoke at length to the principals/owners. These guys to get it. They will be more involved in the village than the prior operator. Ciri Gaming, the prior operator never owned a casino before. LLV was their first and I hope last one. I agree, the success and viability, or at least the perceived success and viability does depend on the casino opening and being successful.

I also have some knowledge of the set up and staffing of the operation. But, it is not my place to discuss that until the press release has been published. From what I can tell, they will be able to open Memorial Day weekend. I can say is that it will be a cool casino on a smaller scale at first and then expand as needed.

There are 5, possibly 6 new tenants opening up shop in the next month. The weekend concerts will begin soon. There is another wine walk scheduled for May 7th and the APril 2nd one sold out. So, things are on the upswing again. The beer fest sold 3,100 tickets. It will all be a domino effect when things get humming again. More employees, mean more business for the other shops they don't work at to eat, shop, gamble etc.

The casino operator is going to try and get the water taxi started up again with drop off points at the Loews, South Shore Lake Club,Luna condos (when opened Reflection Bay) to bring back the uniqueness and excitment of Lake Las Vegas. (and having a beautiful lake to use for that purpose)

I'm sure we all want this property to succeed, but these people have never owned a casino before from what I've read about them. You keep saying that they "get it", but what does that mean? Anyone can have grand plans and say the right things before the doors are open and the bills start rolling in. Jon Berkley, the CEO, had to dump LVGI before it went under. LVGI wasn't a casino. You have been very critical of the prior owners and that's fine, but I wouldn't tout the new owners as great operators until they have actually done something.

@plaster.. glad your hooked on City Data!

@ Gummo, thank you for your first post on City Data! Welcome! I too have read alot about Mr. Berkley and Mr. Suan. They have alot of experience in their fields. One thing that the prior owner lacked, was marketing. This is where Mr. Berkley will excel to bring people to the casino. Mr. Suan has 20 years of gaming experience including Boyd and I beleive both of them were involved in Coast Casinos and Southpoint as well.

When I say, they "get it", from my discussions with them they know what it will take to make the casino great and bring people in. All of their experiences and knowledge should make this a success. Of course, I have to agree with you that we won't know until it's opened and see what they do. I do have confidence they will do well.

I and everyone else have been critical of the prior owners because they did nothing to promote the place. It was ho-hum and boring. The dealers were mean and nasty.

Welcome back Casino Montelago!!
