The theater did not convert to digital.


For you old timers: The Noland Fashion Cinema 6 does not seem like it was open that long, however, time wise it was open about the same length of time as the Granada theater was open.

The Pharaoh 4 on the square is going digital soon.

I think this leaves indoor movie houses in Independence only on the Square and at Independence Center. I cannot think of any others.

The Englewood theater with its largest screen in the KC area seems to be a gleam in someone's eye.

Strictly for the sake of clarification, Independence Center used to have a cinema, but the current theater is located across the street in The Commons shopping area. The AMC 20 to be precise.

I have attended both the old Independence Cinema theaters and the AMC 20 at the Commons.

I had the misfortune to see King Kong Lives in the eighties at the Independence Center. Except for my families paid admission it was an absolute failure at the box office. The premise was that King Kong survived the fall off the Empire State building and was taken to Atlanta, where he was given a heart transplant and nursed back to health after receiving a blood transfusion from a Lady Kong who had been captured in Borneo. King and Lady Kong have a son but Kong finally dies after running amok in the U.S.

The film is listed among the 100 Most Enjoyably Bad Movies Ever Made. It was a was a Paramount sequel to the '76 King Kong version. Presumably the son was ammunition for a threequel.
