Harry Truman did pay his $10 fee to join the KKK for political reasons. However, after meeting with the Klan leaders and hearing their expectations he rescinded his application, and was refunded his money. Shortly afterward rumors were spread that his grandfather Solomon was a Jew.

Time for a new question.

Public schools in Independence, begun in 1866, divided their white students into two groups until 1876. What was the criteria for that division?

Catholic and not

RLDS (or equivalent) and not

But my BEST answer is:

Parents were Southern sympathizers . . . or not

Are those your final answers? I like number 3, unfortunately it is wrong, as is number 2. However, you should congratulate yourself, as number 1 is the correct answer!

Yes, those were my FINAL ANSWER(S) and unfortunately I was tricked again...this time by the 1866 date after having time to think about it. It would make sense given a year after the CW and the heated, divided loyalties, Gen. Order No. 11, et al that the educators would separate the students on that basis and allow time for a "cooling off" period
