Find A Grave: Hedrick Cemetery

There has to be other small vest pocket parks around town. Okay guys, where are they?

I was aware of the cemetery in Hill Park for years and read in several articles that Frank James was buried there. I would go to the park and ask the park goers where it was and they had never heard of it. I kept looking around the rugged rocky area at the park without success. Finally, in 2006 I asked the proprietor of the Blue and Grey Book Store about it and he directed me right to it on the northeast corner of the park at 20th Street.

Since the county turned the park over to the city, I presume it is now a city cemetery.

There are about a dozen grave sites.

There are about a dozen grave sites at this location. I suppose the city takes care of this cemetery also.

Now I am wondering if any of these Hedricks had any thing to to with the Temple Lot church.

Apparently so. Granville Hedrick, the founder, is buried in that small cemetery. Maybe the Temple Lot church maintains it?

MRG Dallas, do you know anything about the red house on the northeast corner of Union and Maple, across from the old Chrisman?

I did not recall there ever being a service station on the northwest corner of Union and Maple, when I attended William Chrisman, but once I saw it, I recalled it. Seemed to have been a pretty good size and probably had a lot of business, also.

The old station you're referring to was a Mobil station (wish I could find old photos of it) and now houses the Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity.

That was Harry Truman's preferred station.

I've always admired the house on the corner. While sitting in class at ol' Chrisman Jr. I'd gaze upon it, wishing I could get inside for a tour.

Yes, it was a service station as long as I remember it. Just a few buildings up from my GPs.

1960 it was Harry White Mobil

1950 & 1956 it was Ray Willis Service Station

EDIT: Damn, you guys are too fast !

But no one remembers the Stahl Funeral Home at 815 W. Maple which would have been a door or two down from the WCHS?

Ok so where then did you guys go to WCHS? I presume all went to the newer HS on 24, MAD and Doc all years. WCHS I believe you said you went there for awhile also?

So where were grades 7-9? I thought my childhood pals went to Palmer Jr High, not the old HS?

I know my Mom graduated the old WCHS. I did not know where she might have gone to junior high. She would have been around Class of 1938.

Ok, I guess I could look it up!

I went through WCJHS then WCHS on 24 and Noland where I graduated in '72. My Dad graduated from the old Christman and graduated in '51. Guess I'm the kid around here, huh?
