I give up. MAD's hints caused me to trace the tracks and try to match the route up with Polk's restaurant listing. Too much work, even with eliminating US 24. Nothing seems to ring the bell. I think WCHS surrendered earlier.

Anyone else? Otherwise, UNCLE!

Do you remember it, WCHS? I don't. It's not listed in Polk's 1960 so I looked at the latest pic and saw The San, so that told me Truman Rd. Then followed the UP tracks, did Streetview and voila! There is the old building, now AZ Manufacturing & Sales. Looking eastward you can readily see the overpass etc.

Since MAD is the youngster amongst us, it was probably a post-1960 establishment. Close to my old friend Doug DeTray's family business so I'm sure he patronized George's many times. Also no doubt a popular VH HS hangout.

To my recollection, I dont have any memory of it. I recognized the bridge, though.

George mush have been fond of the A&W on 24 or maybe was a former owner, chuckle.

I am wondering what the second story was used for.

[quote=Mad Anthonie;26953973]I know! The UP railroad runs to the right of, and then behind this establishment, which is NOT on 24 Hiway. It is just west of what used to be a rather dangerous underpass/intersection.

It still looks "rather dangerous" with the narrowness of the roadway, the intersection of Northern, the median support, etc. Probably been thru that intersection a thousand times but alas, must be the Early Alzheimer's setting in

Truman Road ran only to the "City Limits" @ Forest back then, so even if George's was around it wouldn't be listed.

The building appears to still be there. I dont see any improvements to the bridge that would have made it any safer. A couple months ago I drove through that area.
