Laws ARE made to be broken...they are, really.

Well, unless of course, you're an American citizen. If a citizen breaks the law by god, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Illegal aliens, as always...should get a pass; hell why don't we just pass out some get out of jail free cards and be done with it?

I think you're mistaken. Nobody's jealous...it's a refreshing example of SOMEBODY with enough "moxie" to, in essence, "flip off" the American public and get APPLAUDED for doing so. To watch those legal American "geeks" EAT THEIR HEARTS out, because THEY applied at Harvard, and were rejected. This story is the very ESSENCE of 'screwing the establishment'....and isn't that what we all LOVE?...I mean, REALLY? He fought the system, he 'spit in their eye', and he WON !! What's not to like?

This makes MOST of us no more "jealous" than if someone stole $100 from our billfold, was allowed by the police to KEEP it, took it to Las Vegas and turned it into $2000....and kept that, TOO. Why would anyone be 'jealous' of a guy like that? More power TO him, for being 'creative'.

Jealous? Not most of us....maybe a little concerned is all..

LAWS? Laws are made to be broken....(I mean they ARE...aren't they?)...

The STUDENT should be proud....the DONOR should be proud....and HARVARD should be proud. And if the rest of us are 'jealous', we should be ashamed.
The kid is Summa C-um laude at Harvard.
The kid was Valedictorian of his high school.
The kid was offered full rides to at least 7 universities.
Just because you're a racist and ignorant to the facts does not mean you are not jealous that he will have a better life than you.

There is no reason anyone should be outraged by a kid from an illegal family working hard, accomplishing enough to even be considered by Harvard (plenty of immigrant kids get rejected from San Diego State, do you honestly think Harvard would accept someone unqualified simply because they're an immigrant?), studying hard while in college instead of partying, and being rewarded for his effort. Wouldn't this show other immigrants that if they try hard in school they will be rewarded?

Your outrage is out of one of two things: Jealousy or Prejudice (racism, bigotry). Which is it?

Oh my god! Run for the hills! It's the dreaded RACE CARD!

You're going to have to do better than that. Explain to us why the laws of this country should apply to some (mainly citizens and LEGAL immigrants) and not to others (illegal immigrants come to mind). I don't think it's fair that the law prohibits me from walking into the local bank and taking what I need to get by--using this same logic I've seen applied to this situation--I should be able to walk into the bank and demand however much money I think I have coming to me without fear of consequences.

Oh wait--but those of you who think that there is nothing wrong with an illegal alien openly thumbing his nose at the sovereign laws of this country see the law in terms of gradients....like being a little bit pregnant....

The kid was brought by his parents to this country when he was 9. He studied hard in school and got into Harvard on his own merits. WHAT CRIME HAS HE COMMITTED?

If his name was "Michael Jones" and he was an English kid who moved here at age 9, would you really be making such a big deal about this? I don't think so...it's only because his name is "Juan" and he's Mexican...

What it comes down to is times are hard. People are struggling. The USA is in a major recession. People are lossing their jobs and homes. Yet Harvard and the government are funding families/children from other countries, who do not have legal permission to be in this country in the first place.

I to think the illegal student should not have gotten the funding. Had he come to this country in a legal and lawful manner and was a legal immigrant of this country, then I, and probably many others, would have wished him well.

EEEEEKKKK!!!!! THE RACE CARD AGAIN!!!! YOU NARROWLY MISSED ME WITH THAT UNFORSEEN MISSLE....geezus.

I don't care if he's Mexican, Danish, Russian, Martian, or Lithuanian. I'm sorry that his parents broke the law by breaking into this country illegally. He should be thoroughly furious with them. He's still illegal--not even an anchor baby with pseudo American citizenship.

We put others who come to this country for higher education through the wringer to do so and they're coming here legally!

Nice sidestep though on having to answer my question about which laws it's okay to flaunt and which ones have to be obeyed.

You missed the THIRD possible reason....maybe I just have 'gas'. That will make ANYONE mean and disagreeable....

Nothing worse on this earth than a jealous racist who's feeling bloated.

Harvard is a fully private university, funded by a fully private $25,000,000,000 endowment. $200,000 out of $25 billion is not a whole lot (.0008%), and the money had NOTHING to do with the Government.

Again, you people don't understand anything about this situation or the kid. He wasn't a 18 year old who forged papers and came to Harvard under false pretenses. He was a 9 year old who grew up (spent half his life) in the US, and spent four years as the best student at his AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL. He deserved to get into Harvard, and he deserved the scholarship. Nothing you can say will change that.
