Many cyclists can easily ride at a walking pace, and even slower by balancing. They could ride courteously and safely by staying on their bike, which has been happening nearly 100% of the time to date.

Depending on the cycling shoes, it can be very uncomfortable to walk on concrete.

And if a section of the dismount zone is deserted, will the cyclist still get hassled for hopping on there?

Has there been an accident ? The city forces responsible people to modify their behavior (closing the Park at 9 PM) but refuses to correct irresponsible people. Kids are allowed to fun back and forth along the walkway into and in front of people walking along the trail/path. Why are people allowed to get into that fecal tainted river with just a sign as a warning. Why can't they post a sign to warn people that if are irresponsible they could have an issue with a bicycle, human, goose, lawnmower,or any number of things? Or just post a sign reminding them that stupid can and will hurt you!

At least for now - no citations. That means that I can ride through there if the area is deserted, but would expect to walk on weekends. They've put up 'mandatory dismount' signs on several bridges also. Some of the signs now have plastic.

My son and I have been exploring the trail- it is just beautiful!- but if it weren't for him I would have been runover a couple of times by cyclists; their bikes are too quiet to hear approaching, and they don't use a bell or shout "on your left" as I am used to on the Raleigh greenway trials.

The problem with yelling "on your left" is that 99% of the people being passed immediately look over their left shoulder and then veer into the person trying to pass.
