We walked about 4 miles today and there was not one restroom. Is there a reason they don't have a restroom or did I miss something? We walked from Falls Park to the dog park and around. It just seemed strange to me. I think they should have something along the way even if it's an outhouse.
The only accessible restroom I have seen on the whole trail is when you go near Furman, you can get off the trail and there is one near the lake in Furman.
I believe there are some outside of the Greenville
Zoo main entrance. You probably don't see others because they're worried about them being vandalized. You can use the Swamp Rabbit Cafe's one if you're on the northern leg also.
What everyone else said is accurate. In addition, there are 2 convenience stores in the long stretch between the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and TR who have officially made their restrooms available. There are markings on the trail to indicate their location.
I was in Muncie Indiana and they've transformed old railroad tracks into a trail similar to the Swamp Rabbit Trail... the difference is that it is well marked with, "you are here" signs, bathrooms and plumbed water fountains at every mile marker, and the blue "HELP" stations are along the way so that you can contact emergency services. Something to think about?

In addition to all the ones mentioned above, there's also a restroom near the Main Street bridge across from the Peace Center. It's a bit hidden but it is in the vicinity of that waterfall fountain that the kids can play in. You have to go up the steps and almost go into the parking garage. It's public, clean, no charge, and free. Also has water fountains.

You just need to know where to look.
Yep and on those "there's more to see" signs on Main Street it has public restroom and an arrow point down to the river walk.
River Street underpass moving forward...finally: http://www.greenvillesc.gov/CouncilAgendas/minutes/2014/DECEMBER/Formal/12-8-2014/Item%2011b%20-%20Appropriation%20-%20$200,000%20Appalachian%20Regional%20Commission% 20Area%20Development%20Grant.pdf
