I would think most dishes I put sesame oil in would taste quite good without it, but they would sure be missing that special zing that puts them over the top.

One of the silver linings I'm seeing that goes with the cold northern weather is the use of the ovens and he smells of the good things in them. Next week will be baking and roasting week for me too. Now just to come up with the plans.

I am going to use this cold weather weekend to run my self-cleaning oven cycle. Boy do I hate that smell it makes though... What a Saturday...

Down here we haven't used ours enough to justify running the cycle. Nothing in it but the factory finish. Well there might be a small amount of chocolate dust?

Don't use it too much in summer, but I only run the cleaning cycle about twice a year - the beginning of winter and the end of winter. It's hard enough keeping my 50 year old house cool the rest of the year w/o adding a 600 degree oven to the mix!!!

ETA I was planning on trying this tonight but now it appears I also forgot the apple juice while I was at the store. I am losing it today.
Sesame oil with canola will be a good cooking oil because it would not burn as easily as sesame oil. As elston said pure sesame oil is good finishing oil. A little bit goes a long way. You can use the sesame/canola oil for what you are doing. It will still give nice flavor. I buy a big tin of sesame oil at local oriental market for 7 or 8 bucks. It lasts me a very long time.

Do you keep yours in the refrigerator then? I've started buying a big glass bottle at the Chinese market and I keep it cold because I know other nut oils, such as walnut, spoil easily.

Yes, I have mine in the fridge in the back. I pour out what I use in a small bottle with spout, the same kind I use for soy sauce, and that is normally left out in my kitchen shelf.
