Bad storms here and tornado warning for my immediate area. Thunderstorms, hail and tornado predicted to last until afternoon. I'm staying home all day with my sweetheart Lulu.
Yes, please stay home today, TFW. No need to tempt the fates. We've had a lot of rain which we have not seen in quite a while but no storm warnings, knock on wood. Of course that could change in an instant. I woke up around 5 am. Read the news, finished a book, drank coffee and went back to bed at 10:30 am. Good sleeping weather. Of course, I consider ALL weather to be good sleeping weather.
Is Lulu okay during storms? Take good care and stay inside. Hugs to you both.

Thanks, Ketabcha. Lulu is absolutely terrified of thunder. I've never seen a dog go so bonkers as she does. She races from the front door to the back door, pawing to get out -- she doesnt seem to see or hear anything or anyone -- and she runs into the furniture (tables, TV, etc). After the first thunderstorm here, I got the vet to prescribe Xanax, an anti-anxiety prescription, for her. I give her the maximum dose at least an hour before the thunderstorm hits and she's ok. Then she sleeps for 24 hours.
This storm was really bad. The wind was very strong and tornados touched down just a few miles from me. Lost power for a while too. All is quiet now, thank goodness.
I forgot to mention that we celebrated the one-year anniversary of Lulu's adoption a couple of days ago. Can you believe it's been a year since she came to live here? Here she is sharing some of my daughter's yogurt:
Thanks, Flamingo. It was bad here for a while. The winds were stronger than I can recall in a long time, every bit as strong as Hurricane Ike in 2008. The rain was even falling sideways. I canceled a doctor apointment because I didnt want to get out in that weather. Now it's cooled off (in the 50s instead of the 80s), which is very nice.
I adopted a kitten last night. What a cutie pie. She is black and white and is not really a kitten. Or, maybe she is. She is between 5-6 months old. I named her Savannah because for some reason it fits her.
So, I got home with her in the carrier (she was in the carrier, not I). Opened the carrier in the house and she took off down the hallway. This was around 8:30 last night. I have not seen her since and I swear I searched the house for her. I'm sure the sound of my knees cracking when I looked under beds scared her. Heck, it scared me. She is somewhere within the 2000 sq. feet of this house but I have no idea where.
I've put water and food out for her in a couple of places. I'm worried about dehydration. I didn't even have a chance to show her where the litter box is. Sigh....
I'll report back when she decides to make contact.
Congrats on the adoption, Ketabcha! I'm so very happy for you, but sorry that Savannah's introduction to your house didnt go as planned. Please do report back when you find her.
As for dehydration, I think cats are pretty strong. When my girls were teenagers, we had cats and dobermans. One of the cats somehow got on the other side of the door in a side table in the living room and it took us almost three days to find her. She was fine physically but, boy, was she upset with us.
I hope the kitty has been found by now - you probably already know but in the future you (or anyone for that matter) - should have a small room set up (bathroom, unused bedroom, whatever) - and let the cat out in there to give them time to adjust to sounds, smells, etc.
Presumably kitty will find the litter box - maybe set up some temp. things in more areas? as well as place some glass/ceramic bowls of water around.
I'm waiting for an update on Savannah too, Ketabcha!
